Can anyone here tell me if the MPEG-4 channels work in Vista Media Centre and if so how they got them set-up? Scanning for them doesn;t produce any results for me, but is this because I have my region set as the UK? If I changedmy region to Ireland and scanned again would it work or i there a patch or registry entry to be changed in order to receive them? Many thanks, I almost have my entire system set up and only the ROI channels are missing!

No they don't. Windows 7 has MPEG-4 support but not Vista.

Damn, I thought I had read on here somewhere of someone getting them working in Vista Media Centre ages ago. Hmmm.... Guess I will have to wait until October 22nd then...

I did, but it was back in the MPEG-2 days.

Apparently you can hack it for MPEG4 HD on Freesat, so it should probably work for MPEG4 SD too.

Can you do a manual scan for the channels?

If that doesn't work, you should check out Media Portal

The last time I tried it, DVB-T h.264 support seemed to be broken, but the latest Beta version should have it fixed.

Right, will try Media Portal when I get home tonight. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Try GBPVR - works perfectly on the Irish DTT (and UK FTA DTT/Sat channels inc HD channels on Sat). The support forum contains a very helpful and friendly bunch.

Thanks for that BigMoose, will try that when I get home.

I tried Media Portal there over lunchtime, and apart from being very clumsy and cumbersome to set up, it would only find 2 of the 6 UK Freeview MUX's and wouldn't find anything for the ROI DTT service. I don't think I'll use MediaPortal any more! And I thought Media Centre was slow searching for channels!

There's an option somewhere in GBPVR to scan the offset frequencies - which at some point or other I have needed to get the scan to work off 3rock/Kippure but cant remember if you do now. Either way it found everything last time I tried a week or so ago. There are several skins for it if you dont like the default one. The main chore for setting up is mapping digital channels to the EPG - I use XMLTVGUI and the Radiotimes for all my UK and Irish EPG data and once setup it works well. As with any Direct X software, you might have playback issues for some combo's of audio/vidio codecs if you've got crappy or lack of codecs installed but there are numerous posts and offers of help on the support forums for finding ones that work well. I'm very happy with my Irish DTT and UK Sat combo (except when the arial cable falls out the back after I've been messing around and I assume the DTT signal is off for days.... )

Well, that's what I would like to have, all the free satellite, terrestrial, HD and MPEG-4 channels in one EPG. Hopefully GBPVR can keep me going until the end of October when I will be updating to Windows 7, the Media Centre in it will do everything I want, I just have to wait until it's released!
