Im wondering do the GAA think they will stop either the Tipp or Kilkenny supporters running onto the pitch after the final whistle.

I dont think they will be able to stop the fans and could end in a farce

Of course i hope there will be no injuries or skirmishes

    Vote yes or no

Will the fans succeed in running onto pitch 27 votes

It'll be tough stopping the Tipp supporters if they win. They've waited longer for the chance to invade the pitch.

Killkenny would abide I'm sure but never bet against a sly Tipp middle-aged man with a beer-gut

Shame on the supporters if they do. It shouldn't matter if their county win.

No but it would be better to let the GAA trample the supporters more would it? Next year the offside rule for Football and hockey sticks for the hurlers. Invading the pitch as is much a part of the GAA as the Liam McCarthy or Sam Maguire.

great to see the supporters staying off the field - both teams deserve to get the appluase from the the crowd

Spoke to soon. Why can't the supporters behave and stay off the pitch. Its the players that did all the hard work all year every year and why should moronic supporters keep pushing to get on the field. Its a shame.

Or it would have been better if they stayed where they were. How anyone would be trampled is beyond me.

So much for that happening. The Kilkenny county board should receive a hefty fine for this.

There was no way that the fans were going to stay off the pitch...

It was pretty stupid to try and keep the fans off the pitch.

The cameras showed the stewards pushing all the fans around at the foot of Hill 16. This is how stampedes and pushes happen. All the fans were pushing up against the front and they were being pushed back by the stewards. It was very unsafe. Letting them onto the pitch isn't as dangerous as what the stewards were doing at the foot of Hill 16.

They should have just let them onto the pitch from the start.

i dont no if u where ever at a final and won but if u did then u would no how good it is to invade the pitch after winning.its not a shame why shoulent the supporters enjoy in as much as the players there the ones that paid to see the game

I hope people sue the ass of the GAA for injuries received while they were being held back, there is nothing nicer than going onto the pitch and every year they attempt to block the supporters. Fair play to the Kilkenny supporters for taking the pitch and giving the GAA and the Guards the two fingers literally.

Croke Park is the safest pitch in the world because you can easily evacuate into the pitch and the only dangers ever encountered in stadia is in pressure points. If there was no attempts made to stop the fans then there would never be dangers, Christy Cooney is a miserable git who couldn't smile if he was paid and it was good to see the Liam McCarthy back up in the lower Hogan where it belongs, I almost puked when I saw the token ethnic kid in a Kilkenny jersey, what are they trying to do to the GAA? It is the bastion of Irishness and a symbol of our pride, how dare they attempt soccerify it, first the allow soccer and rugby in, now they try this crap of stopping supporters and trying to introduce multiculturalism *pukes*

I would agree with you except that you will have some 'supporters' who will get hurt and sue.

the stewards dont start stampedes, its the fools who dont do as they are told that cause all the problems. if you are told not to go on the pitch ---you dont go on the pitch.

its all well and good until some child gets caught at the barrier during the traditional invasion and then every one will be saying why were they allowed on the pitch

You said yourself it's tradition. It's been happening for decades, just because the GAA change their mind doesn't mean the people are going to obey blindly, they are going to chance their arm and try get onto the pitch.

Once the stewards saw this happening, they should have let the fans onto the pitch, instead of trying to force them back and therefore increasing the danger to everyone.

It would have been better off if the GAA just let the pitch invasion happen from the off. The resistance from the stewards and the Guards just caused more trouble.

Tradition is no excuse. In Europe a tradition known as fox tossing was quite common in the middle ages. As that was traditional it shouldn't have been outlawed?

If the GAA do say that there should be no pitch invasion then of course those in attendance should respect that decision.

Just because its tradition doesnt mean its a good idea, they used leeches for years as well doesnt mean we should keep using them.

I'll sleep happy tonight!:) Delighted the fans got onto the pitch, stupid rule to begin with, stupid to bring it in at an all ireland and stupid to think it would work. I mean you could see on the tv it was alot more dangerous for them to be told to keep off then to allow them on from the start.

Laughed like hell at the plan B thing. :D

Dont wanna sound racist but its an Irish game so why get a Mauritius kid to givr the cup:confused:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,334 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

I'm not saying it's a great tradition but it is one that's been around for ages and it is the reason why the fans tried to get onto the pitch, despite being warned not to.

What I'm saying is it is safer to let the fans onto the pitch, instead of creating a crush at the foot of Hill 16.

This is the new corporate GAA, they'll happily take your money and then treat the people like scum.

Great to see the fans having their way.

Ditto, it is racist alright, racist against Irish people, this is common type of PC sh*t which is trying to be introduced into Irish life by the liberal left. I know dozens of young kids who would give their front teeth for an opportunity like that, but they give it to a token ethnic kid. Absolutely disgraceful from the GAA trying to water down our culture like this.

Still mad that Kilkenny stole it but their supporters made up for it by giving the GAA a proper up yours! The men of the Kingdom will not bow down to the hired thugs either today two weeks when Darren is at the foot of the hogan with Sam,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,334 ✭✭✭HalloweenJack

Perhaps the young lad is the best hurler is his year?

They'd hardly force the kid into it if he didn't want to do it.

And after the racist treatment that kid in Carlow got off those morons, the GAA would want to do something about cleaning up their image.

Agreed. The GAA "leadership" are a pack of scum. It is a game of hurling, stop trying to beat social issues down our throats.

glad they got onto the pitch! big deal..its 2days in the year including the football and its so much safer to let them run out than blocking and shoving them back! most of the supporters have spent thousands each season following their team between tickets, travel and the general 'day out'! I'd like to have seen them keep the tipp crowd off that pitch..blood would have been spilled i'd say!

Yes it is, tradition is the one of the few things the GAA should hold on too its beliefs or customs taught by one generation to the next . Its a part rural life in every county.
