Im thinking of importing 32 electronic items from China altogether its costing me 318 euro including shipping and its been shipped by UPS. Does anyone know if i will get hit with VAT as im new to this and wouldnt have a clue . Any advise would be much appreciated. I was also thinking on buying 100 Disney watches off ebay ive heard that theres no VAT on kids items is this true. Cheers

To the best of my knowledge,
if the total amount i.e. with shipping included, is over 35 euro,
you must pay VAT, the current rate being 22.5% i think?

Also this "kids items" thing sounds like B.S. to me, but im not 100% sure.

Hello, I got in an invertor welder in from china, it was about 200 euro, but it was an post who delivered it,:D they charged vat plus about 20 euro for them to collect the vat. I've gotten in low value items for free mostly because it would cost more to collect the vat rather than what they would get. Never heard anything about no vat on childrens stuff, unless you are thinking of the war there was about the vat or no vat on kids clothes years ago

The cost of the items comes to : 216 euro
The shipping comes to 102 euro

    Cheers

is the 318 euro include duty aswell?
i think mobile phone or mobile phone related goods are duty free, if your goods can be classified into that category?:D

as my experience, you have to make sure those Disney watches licenced, otherwise they can be seized by custom. It happened to me few years ago.

Children's clothes and shoes are zero-rated for VAT purposes (as are books), and hence no VAT is payable on the import of these items.

Toys, electronics (including mobile phones) are subject to VAT. Import duties are a completely separate issue, and some items may be subject to import duties, as well as VAT, if imported from outside the EU.

I never even thought of duty seems like a bit of a minefield, the costs look like there going up every minute

Im pretty sure its on the total including shipping, the final sum you pay.

Ive read this repeatively on the thumped forums.

People were saying that UPS are the worst for charging you high fees,

they basically pay the vat for you, before you even get the package,

and theyll charge you with a fair chunk of interest if that makes sense!

DHL are meant to be much cheaper for their fee, at least they were when i ordered through them anyway.

    Mods,

since this is a question asked a lot, not just on boards, but on any forum,

is there any chance we could have a sticky with the relevant information

for Customs Duty, copied from revenue.ie?
