Jack Tweed, the widower of reality television star Jade Goody, has been charged with rape.

The 22-year-old was charged with one count of rape over an alleged attack at an address in Redbridge, Essex, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

Mr Tweed, who lives in Repton Park, Chigwell, Essex, is due before Redbridge Magistrates' Court later.

Officers also arrested a 20-year-old man, who has been bailed, and a man, aged 25, who remains in custody.

Police said the men were arrested following a complaint from a woman.

Mr Tweed, whose wife died in March, was arrested on Friday along with the 20-year-old man.

A third man, 25, was arrested on Friday night and is being held at an east London police station.

I wonder, considering his reputation, how many folks will just presume he is guilty.

Given the amount of allegations made against premiership footballers and soapstars in the UK and how many of these allegations result in charges being brought - he probably didn't do it but the woman involved is already lining up her exclusive tabloid deal.

Celebrities and footballers are fair game for unsubstantiated allegations like these. It's not fair that the victim can claim anonymity but the accused is named and shamed - no "innocent til proven guilty" here then.

I agree, i'd say it was a set up alright! Maybe the girl was expecting more from him, when she realised there was no chance for that she cried rape.

    We will see!

Nah, if it was a setup they would have used an underage girl.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I agree, let's not just assume he's guilty, but seriously, let's not just assume he's innocent!!

Oh I agree MM - we shall wait and see if a prosecution actually happens. I bet it won't.

I also bet we'll see a tabloid headline tomorrow - an exclusive from the victim.

I thought they had 'sub judice' rules in Britain - so that once someone has been charged the media can't comment on the details of the case, nor publish interviews with anyone involved with the case.
All they can mention is the alleged offence, and the date of the next court appearance.
    I could be wrong.

I think it's disgusting, the way people can accuse a 'celebrity' - or any person - of rape, to get themselves in the paper and sell their story.
Using something like rape as a means to get attention for yourself is the lowest of the low. It demeans rape's position as a serious crime, I think.

These girls who try and cream money for their stories are despicable. Posing in their underwear, claiming to have been sexually abused. If they had really been raped, they most likely couldn't bear to show off their body, out of the shame most victims feel.

I personally can't stand Jack Tweed, but it is terrible the way these skanks just pop up and claim these things, they have no shame whatsoever, and if they're found to be lying they should be humiliated to the highest degree. Like that Ulrika Johnsson. They are an insult to women who have actually indeed been raped, and its silly cows like them that are making it harder for the real victims to come forward.

These women are dispicable, but no more so than a man who made his claim to fame by appearing to feign love for a dying woman. He has no noticeable talent and is now worth a fair bit. These girls are no more ruthless than he is.

It's also despicable that because someone is famous people automatically assume that the girls are lying and only after cash.

From the current media reports it appears that another man was involved. Some claim that Tweed was alone with the girl and the other came into the room demanding oral sex. That would suggest the boys wanted a threesome and maybe the girl wasn't up for it. But the media, of course, isn't exactly that reliable.

I find it absolutely frightening that the automatic reaction is "Nah, he didn't do it. She's obviously a slag only after money."

    We will see!

So we've decided that this girl is guilty of lying and attempted extortion?
She made a complaint to the police and was examined/treated in a special unit. The police obviously thought there was enough evidence to bring charges.

Is it any wonder that so few rapes are reported?
Is it any wonder that rape is used all over this planet as a weapon of war?

Why is it that so many men (who are sons, brothers, fathers and husbands of women) immediately jump to the defence of any man accused of rape, and use the most degrading language in castigating the women who report rape?

Yes, he is innocent (of this crime) until proven guilty.
This girl has not been charged with any crime. She claims she was raped. She is also innocent of making a false claim until she has been proven guilty.

Do some men think that the crime of rape doesn't really exist?

    Are there No good men?

I hope I'm wrong. Recent high profile allegations like these have come to naught due to lack of evidence. This could be another one.

Lack of evidence does not equal innocence. Rape can often be hard to prove. Rape victims often feel incredibly dirty afterwards and shower removing possible evidence, they often blame themselves and so don't report it, the may also look at how rape victims are treated both in the media (as evidenced in this thread) and in court and feel that reporting it is pointless because victims of rape are often treated like criminals. And then it can often come down to her word against his and unfortunately there are still a lot of people out there who feel that the woman was asking for it, or consented and has changed her mind or is just plain lying.

Now I'm not for one second suggesting that women be believed without question. Unfortunately there are women out there who lie about this scenario and use it for their own gain, and I agree that this does diminish the seriousness of the crime and also makes it even harder for women who have been raped to get justice. However, it genuinely scares the crap out of me that the automatic reaction is to go the other way and assume that the girl is a liar and only after what she can get. It's basically giving these "celebrities" free reign to do what they please because they'll be believed.

A bit of balance is required on all sides.

I think you're being very unfair to posters on this thread. All that was said was that, given the proportion of these celebrity cases that DO turn out to be false claims- it's more likely that she's lying, than if a celebrity wasn't involved

Noone said that she's definitely a liar, cause noone here has all the facts. We're just trying to look at both sides of this.

Personally, given the circumstances of three men's involvement, I'm more inclined to think that she's not lying and that Tweed is guilty.

I do agree with you though that some people automatically do jump to the defence of the accused.

But you can't deny that there have been alot of false claims made against celebrities, alot more so, I imagine, than against non-celebrities.

You say that "so many men" are untrusting of rape claims, which is something I find very offensive. The notion of rape even more abhorrent than murder and can't physically watch rape scenes in movies (I nearly got sick watching that scene in Clockwork orange). And yes, that's undoubtedly because of women I love in my life (be they gf, mother, sister, friends)

Most victims of rape cannot face going to court so most rapists suffer no consequences.

I think many of the claims against 'celebrities' are withdrawn or do not go ahead because the victim is 'bought off' - I can imagine friends and family encouraging victim to 'settle' as the easier option , rather than facing highly-paid, top-class legal eagles in court. That is entirely different to saying that women make a false claim of rape to get money.

Of course there are some false claims. Anyone found guilty of making a false claim of rape should face the full rigours of the law, as no father, brother, son or husband should suffer such a fate.

But we should hold off on castigating the complainant or the alleged perpetrator until the case has been heard.

Chinafoot, I'm not disagreeing with you - I agree that it's very hard for rape victims to come forward and report what happened to them because of how cases like these are prosecuted. Unfortunately, some women do cry rape (I've had some experience of this) and they make it far more difficult for real cases of rape to be taken seriously or for the women involved to have the strength to report the b*****d that hurt them.

In this case, we're dealing with a celebrity who may or may not have raped this woman. Until the court case happens and he's found guilty, I'll reserve the right to be cynical.

    Yep, no argument there.

I agree entirely, but I don't think that castigating all (or most) men is fair either.

Tbh, you're original post infuriated me because it seemed to suggest that most men don't care about rape, because it's not something they have to be concerned about (usually). I wouldn't like being called a misogynist, much as I don't think you'd like to be called a racist. But having re-read some of the posts, I agree that there has been unfair verbal attacks used against high-profile rape victims. Use of words like "skanks" when discussing the subject rape victims probably isn't the most sensitive wording (even though it was obviously aimed at the false cases)

I haven't seen any pictures of this girl posing in her underwear. In fact as far as I know, her name hasn't even been released.

Yes it's perfectly possible that she's only accusing him for publicity.

However there's also a very real chance that her claim is genuine. In which case, it took a lot of guts for her to come forward and bring the claim against him, knowing what the media and public response would be.

Latest reports suggest three men were involved. Whatever chance you have of defending yourself against one man, can you imagine being in the position of going home with one man and trying to fight off him along with two others? It's terrifying to think about.

Again, it is possible the girl involved is no angel herself. However if we're applying the "innocent until proven guilty" theory ... I'd be inclined to apply it to the girl involved before applying it to the defendant.

If he wanted to be famous in his own rite, he certainly succeeded, whether he's guilty or not.

Sometimes these famous people do get away with murder. They always think that they are above the law. Maybe these lads were high on drugs;)

Well they'll reap what they sow.
