10 years on and still no sign of the end

A relative of mine has a case in the High Court at present (we think because there hasnt been any word from solicitor lately), where they are suing a company for something that happened 10 years ago. Case started 8/9 years ago.
It finally went before the High Court Spring last year, but the judge looked for more information etc.
Now 16 months later there is still no word on progress. Solicitor is not forthcoming, promised it would have been completed years ago.
My question is what is the longest anyone has had to wait for their case to finish?

I think in the order of 15 years, but that was exceptional.

At least you are in front of a judge, so hopefully soon. But do drop a note to your solicitor asking for an update.

10 years isn't the longest time I've seen a High Court case go on but it is toward the longer end.

Has your relative been in touch with your solicitor as to the cause of the delay? Presuming its a personal injuries case, they get on in Dublin now within a year of the case being set down for trial (this is when all the pre trial procedure has finished). The judge in charge of the Dublin personal injuries list, Mr. Justice Quirke is making an concerted effort to ensure that cases that have been languishing are going to trial, so there's a good chance it should get on soon, provided its been set down for trial.
