I bought a couple of remote controls today in the 2 euro shop in Letterkenny, used to be the pound shop, obviously for 2 euro each. They are clones of the sky remote , not as well made of course, but they work perfectly well and use the same codes as a genuine sky remote. I tried them on my tv,s and they work perfectly on a philips, a panasonic and a mikomi (argos) television. If you need a second remote to control a magic eye or if your child or your dog has a habit of chewing on your remote controls then these are a viable and cheap alternative.

Does anyone know if these are available in other €2 shops - preferably in Dublin. The zero button on the remote in my kids playroom has stopped working so I'd like to replace it at minimal cost.

Do they have Sky + versions?

I'd say if it's in one Euro2, it'll be in them all.

Those remotes have been around for a few years. I had one for my old sky box about 2 years ago. They are very low quality. Easy to tell differnce. The back is not rubber so it slides off the arm of the chair ! My one worked for about a month before it packed in. Buttons would stick down and you have to press the numbers very hard to get it to change channel. Tried a second one and it lasted exactly one week before doing same. Just buy the real one, for your sanity.

Can anyone tell me how to program this for a Philips tv (ie how to + code)?

I had previously done this, but for some reason the volume up and down buttons don't work, which I fixed previously by re-programming it, but I've lost the manual.

    Cheers.

    Press tv
hold down red and select buttons together until light on remote blink twice
    press tv again
type in 0081 then press power button followed by tv over and over again until the tv turns off
    then press select.

Scaller, you're an absolute gent. I searched all the €2 shops nearby, and couldn't find the same one, or even one that would work with my tv.

    Thanks a million.
