Ill figure it out eventually..i hope.

So,AH'ers dyis have any gadgets you've bought on a whim and are still sittin there not doin what they're supposed to?

Your laptop may have a button, a physical button on the bottom half (probably not on the keyboard though) that turns on or off wireless connections

Is there an icon with two little monitors in the bottom right, beside the clock? I'm sort of assuming you have HP laptop with Vista tbh

Turn it off and on again.

No idea if this is still the case, but it used to be that UPC/NTL's router wouldn't pick up and assign addresses to new machines until you rebooted the router itself.

Did that aswell. I have a signal (4/5 bars) and my laptop can "talk" to my wireless router or server (whatever) in the next room, but when i click on on IE it says im not connected to the internet, so im lost. Ah..ive been into "control panel, network properties" etc but am still stumped. Its something stupid...but its wrecking my head. Anyhoo...:D

There is usually a password on the wireless box to stop people using your connection without your permission. Did you enter this at any stage.

OK So you're in network connections in control panel. Click on the wireless network connection. Have a look at "View wireless networks".
    Find your network.
Do you have a wireless network key? If it's the first time you've connected you'll need that key.
Then delete system32. You can't forget to delete system32.

It sounds like you need the WEP or WPA key to connect to the "secured" wireless network, most wireless routers now are secured by default rather than unsecured, can you get the routers manual, it may have the key on the front page!

There's definitely a flux capacitor that will do the job, if it hasn't been removed.

My boss actually did this to his computer on Tuesday. Myself and the other people in the office could hear a lot of cursing coming from his office, then we heard a loud crash. Apparently his computer kept crashing on him and turning itself off, he got really pissed off at it and picked it up and threw it out the bloody window. It had us all in stitches the whole day laughing about it. :D

Yep im shamelessly bumpin my own thread but no messin lads this is the first time ive sat down (on my couch) with my new laptop...and im finally wireless.

You wouldnt believe the amount of calls, trips to Harvey Ns to get to this. But,after a year of leggin it between different rooms (old massive but did the job Dell PC) ive finally managed to get the whole thing in sync ...and my god its brilliant.Im just delighted with myself.

Im 30..but im seriously old school when it comes to gadgety technology things so to sit here and look at your good old selves on Boards, text on my mobile and pause live telly on Ntl..well its just the business.Slag away at how old school i am but lads...ive just realised ...technology is just flippin fantastic:D:D
