I havent a clue how it would affect the Defence Forces.

Just from purely a military point of view, would it be a good thing or a bad thing?

It would mean proper funding because the economy wouldnt be as far down the tubes.

I thought it was common knowledge that a yes vote would mean that every Irish man would be conscripted into a new European super army and sent to their deaths!

Oh, and how would that work then?

I hope you're wrong, the last thing we need in the current economic climate is to be made increase spending on the defence forces...bigger fish to fry tbh.

I'm pretty that's not the case anyway, that we wont be obliged to increase spending.

The Lisbon Treaty would further militarise the EU. It calls for all member states to increase their military spending and obliges them to make facilities available for EU military activity.
Lisbon would extend the grounds on which the EU can participate in military interventions beyond the boarders of the EU.
It strengthens links between the EU and NATO and allows a small group of member states to form a military alliance within the EU and in cooperation with US-dominated NATO.
Lisbon would also allow for the incorporation of Irish forces into EU military structures and planning, which are dominated by states with colonial histories and use military operations for political-economic ends.

Those who are calling for a Yes vote should explain how they went about reading a treaty, 300 pages long, with 3000 references to other treaties. I'll be waiting.

If we vote yes there are going to be EU shocktroopers imposing the will of Europe on the rest of the world! Won't somebody please think of the children?

Soon we won't have to think of the children, they'll all be conscripted!

Those who are complaining for a No vote should explain how they went about reading a treaty, 300 pages long, with 3000 references to other treaties. Seriously, I'm ****in sick of people saying they're voting no because they haven't read the treaty or researched it in any way. Everyone takes their right to vote for granted, but what about their responsibility to actually know what they're voting for?

I think most people will just vote no to **** with the Gov't.

Again, can you explain how you read it instead of resorting to insulting? The people, who have spoken, are insulted enough I would say.

How exactly did I insult you?

With two only remotely relevant answers so far, and obviously going in the wrong direction entirely, I'm killing this thread.

I'm sure there are plenty of threads on the Politics forum on the matter if you want to debate the Lisbon Treaty.

    NTM
