    Hey all

I use EZ Drummer with Cubase and find it is indeed very handy as I cant possibly fit a kit in my house and I am a horrible drummer

    BUT

I am also a horrible bass player and was wondering if anyone knows of a similar software package for the bass? Also sound wise I would like it to be pretty good

    Cheers

Band in a box. Or, play the bass on keyboard, there are lots of good realistic sounding bass VSTs, what DAW are you using?

WHy is your bass playing horrible?

Cubase 5 (brand new just moved up from sx)

    RME Multiface 24 Bit

And use a TL Audio Ivory 2 preamp

And I can play the bass but truthfully if I can avoid it I do:D

    Hi Pop,

I am with you on the drum thing, I don't have the room, kit, mics or talent to play and record drums properly. I use addictive drums which I really like.

I am half with you on the bass thing. The problem I have is getting a quality bass sound. I much prefer the feel of a bass line played on a bass than on a keyboard but that's probably down to the kind of music I like.

I tried a few bass amp demo things like Markbass studio 1, IK multimedia's Ampeg thing and a cheap thing called Studio devil. I liked the IK one best.

    Good luck.

The problem with bass is that you kind of need gear at a certain level to get something approaching what you hear on records. A good bass and a good player also don't go astray ;-)

A lot of times on record what you are hearing is a combo of DI and a mic'ed amp, and whatever about the arguments of using a good preamp for whatever else a good mic pre/DI is crucial for getting a good DI bass sound.

have a look at chris hein bass for kontakt.

it's beautifully sampled and features elec w/ pick, elec fingers, elec fretless aswell as a few upright models. sounds stunning with even the smallest little detail like fret noise to make it realistic.

that in conjunction with ik multimedia svx is the closest you'll get without actually using a bass.

    Cheers all

I am trying to move on a couple of guitars at the mo to make room for a move and thought that maybe as my bass playing is not amazing I could sell it and get some comparable software but now I am not too sure.

Looked at a chris hein demo on youtube and it just sounded digital to me unfortuneatley and that seems to be the dearest one

    it just sounded digital

you're going on a youtube demo and deciding it sounded digital? for godsake go to the site and download the real demos.

it doesnt sound digital at all. its a REAL bass sampled and it needs processing after the fact aswell remember.. im not 100% how it was sampled but it could very well be just thru a DI box so unless you add an amp sim its going to sound like a dry DI'd bass.

Spectrasonics are bringing / updating the new Trilogy out very soon - they were begged to do an update to it with more 'automated/arpegios' type thing - gonna be stonking for sure considering every other product they make is soooo solid.
