This appalling weather. It must have rained every day for the past two months. My grass is getting very long and it isn't dry for long enough to cut it

Heh, try a flamethrower. We had one when I was a youngster - ran on paraffin I think (it smelt great!), it should be okay tomorrow and as it didn't rain today with the breeze it might just be cuttable by late afternoon.

Lets try to stay serious here. Have you tried using a hairdryer?

Well i'm pretty sure there's been one day where it hasn't rained. You probably just missed it. Wait for the next dry day.

Come to think of it how long does it take grass to dry? Cant you just cut it a couple of hours after it's rained.

All I need is two good days so I can cut the lawn too, damn rain. Actually don't have to be good, just dry.

Yes it rained every day but it doesn't rain all day. I cut my lawn twice in the last 10 days you don't need the grass bone dry to cut it.

Being wet is no excuse for not cutting your grass down to a more manageable and enjoyable size.

Those emo curtains are all the rage these days. They hang themselves.

You probably have a point there. On Sunday afternoon, I'm going to cut it regardless. I'm sick of looking at it at this stage

Grass-cutting is a very serious business. Any more quips and you'll get a clip round the ear.:P

Yeah when I was a youngster people used to do that outside my home too.

    In Vietnam.

I did love the smell though.

OP it hasn't rained for a while you could try cutting it now, even though its dark outside.

How long does it take to gut the grass? 45 mins? I'm sure at some stage during any given day it hasn't rained for a 45 min period.
It doesn't matter if the grass is wet or not, everyone has a spare pair of wrecked shoes for the job and you'd still end up with grass stains if the grass was dry.

Be glad you're not trimming bushes, jiggle them too much and you get drenched.

I managed to do it last night and it had got really high. It is really tough to mow wet grass.

The grass was so high that I managed to burst one of those small footballs (lying in the grass) belonging to my neighbour's kid too.

It was a very satisfying grumpy twisted old fucker moment as I held the mangled leather aloft and grinned mirthlessly.

My biggest grip with wet grass is how it chokes up the mower. Another big problem is the wet ground and how you'd nearly go bogging while mowing the lawn. I had my drain lawned about 5 years ago with drains running accross it and herring bone drains to take the water, make a grand job of it except for one dry section that was ok but was no match for the summers of 07,08 & 09. Will have to get that bit drained next year.

I've been praying for our scabby, plastically Flymo electric to bite the dust so I can get a Honda petrol mower and have the ability to cut the grass in a light drizzle.

I was toying with the idea of getting one of those robot-things, but I'm afraid our hyperactive Jack Russell would probably try to mate with it.

I cambe back yesterday from a week in Spain(where it didnt rain) and I hadnt cut the grass for 2 weeks before that. There were mushrooms growing all over the grass.Gross.

The grass was so long that it kept clogging and took twice as long- the mushrooms tasted good though.

Some punter has called it right for the last three years. He predicted a warm start to this June, a deluge for July and August, and he is predicting that September will be another warm month. I hope he is right.

By the way, I went and cut my grass yesterday despite the ground being extremely wet. I now have short grass with big mucky skid marks all over the place. Still, I am not sorry I tackled it !
