I am planning on getting some eye protection at the weekend and am wondering what are the best products out there.

I was looking at the Viper Tactical Goggles: http://www.eirsoft.ie/store/product_info.php?products_id=250

Has anyone any experience with them? Or can you recommend any others?

Also, is it best to get goggles, glasses or a full face mask? What is the norm?

Most players, including myself just use glasses, I use a pair of Bollé contours and I find they rarely fog up. Players prefer goggles as they provide a full seal around the eye's but they tend to fog up. Full face masks aren't all that common from what I've seen, mainly rentals and new players use them, but I know a few players who prefer them, although if you do get a full face mask, I'd advise a mesh one as they're not going to fog up.

It's all down to what you prefer and feel most comfortable with, I can't stand face masks, but if you're wearing one there is no chance of getting a tooth shot out. Which is a risk we all take when wearing goggle's or glasses.
Another option is to wear goggles with a balaclava or a half face mask like this.

yep when i started out i used a full face mask but it soon bagan to annoy me as its difficult to get low enough to the sights on some guns with them
i used glasses for a while but i did take a shot to the side of them and then noticed a bb rolling on the inside but i just wasnt wearing them close enough to my head
i use goggles now (ess) and the only time they fog is if my helmet slips down covering the vents
    i prefere goggles
i think they also look the coolest:cool: (glasses smiley?:p)

How likely is it to actually chip a tooth when wearing just goggles/glasses? Do you know of any incidences?

i know of one guy( cant remember their name atm) who chipped a tooth but the chances of it happening are extreamly small
i wear a balaclave to ruduce the chance incase someone gets that precise of a shot

It's not that likely, its a very unlikely thing to happen, I've heard of it happen, maybe some of the lads on here would be able to tell you more.

I might go with the goggles/baliclava approach.

Would something like this be of any use in preventing pellets hitting your teeth: http://www.ebairsoft.com/multicam-multi-wrap-p-1580.html ?

It kinda looks like a thin material :/

I think you'd be better off with a balaclava the material on those is really thin.

i think i read somewhere that some people wear gum shields with glasses
could be ok im sure you would get used to it

Mmm. I know it'd be good for winter, but when it starts to get warm again you would fry in a balaclava. I know from experience!

hehe yeah good point but theres just something so "shpecial forshesh" about balaclavas:D its one of the reasons i dont like full face maskes but then again is it worth the pain of getting shot in the face?:p

It'd be very slightly more use than the thin air itself. Been (somewhere like; specifically, a scrim scarf) there.

I use Bitter End goggles because I love anything made by a crazy guy who thinks he has the answer, and the face part of an El Cheapo mesh-mask-and-low-profile-face-guard on an elastic strap. Thus is my most handsome smile protected, but my ability to look like a badass no more than slightly impinged upon, because I can flip it up and down as I choose.

If you want to protect your teeth for sure, go solid face part and be safe. Otherwise don't bother and look cool. In-betweens cover a very narrow gap on the bell curve.

I have also heard that some BB's could shatter when hitting mesh goggles and then plant themselves in your eye. Any truth to that?

Specifically, that rumour is about low-quality biodegradable BBs. A few sites require the use of bio BBs (those on Coillte land such as Midlands Airsoft Club and South-East Airsoft Club, at least) and some places won't allow them at all (the very close-quarters indoor The Warehouse). Nevertheless, in my experience the common consensus is that nobody actually knows anybody who has a story about this happening, so rumour might be all it is.

i saw a vid on youtube where a guy shot a mesh mask with a 600 fps(roughly) sniper and nothing happened except a nice big dent in the mesh
the only way i see this happening is a crappy .12g being fired from a high fps gun (which would never happen)

Are there any shops in Dublin that supply goggles? Or will I have to order them online? I'd prefer to see what I'm buying before I buy it...

Hobby Airsoft sells goggles, and they've a retail unit in Greenogue. You can view their goggles on www.hobbyairsoft.ie. Eirsoft also have goggles, again you can view 'em here. MIA sell them too, again viewable on www.mainirishairsoft.com. All of the above have stores in Dublin/Greater Area.

Thanks for the replies, guys. Really helping me out!

I think I might opt for the Viper tactical Goggles. They seem to best fit what I'm looking for.

    Cheers.
