NEVER MIND THE PICNIC, HERE’S GOBSMACKED !

Electric Picnic has never really catered for fans of hard hitting techno, so while the South East’s house heads may be heading for Stradbally this weekend, Electric Avenue’s Loft has invited Gobsmacked Records to host a night of tough techno this Saturday, 5th September. Co-owners of the label Diarmaid O’Meara and Karl Cullen will play headline sets, supported by new kid on the techno block, Luke Creed.

Admission is FREE before 11pm and €10 after.

Gobsmacked Records is Irelands premiere tough techno label and brand. With its roots in Waterford City and Dublin, Gobsmacked has evolved into an influential International record label with a roster of artists stretching across the globe, including everyone from brand spanking new, cutting edge producers to chart topping old school acts that combined now have over 40 releases. Gobsmacked has also brought over the cream of the underground (DJ Rush, CJ Bolland, Marco Bailey, Space DJz, Robert Armani) to it’s clubnights.

Diarmaid O Meara is currently one of Irelands main techno exports and was earlier this year branded by M8 magazine as "One To Watch". He is known for his energetic approach to 3 turntable mash-up techno sets and for producing “dance-floor wrecking” tracks. Since his first vinyl release in 2006, his style has been grabbing more and more attention with releases across several labels, constant airplay across UK and European radio stations, and bringing his intense mixing style to clubs across Europe. Diarmaid is currently gearing up to release his new techno mix album at the end of 09, 'Structured Noise' will contain 16 of his most successful techno releases from the past two years and is receiving support from countless
acts, producers, radio shows and magazines

In 2005, Karl Cullen began running techno nights in a local pub. Proving to be a hit with locals for his jackin sound, within a year he found himself supporting DJs such as Marco Bailey and Fergie and running highly successful resident nights in some of the South East’s biggest clubs. M8 Magazine said this about Karl’s debut “Siren” EP…..”come on in and join the party. A Chicago booty shaker with all the on-beat claps you could ever wish for. Include the World War II siren and you’re lifting the crowd into absolute overdrive. This one’s huge. " 2008/09 has seen Karl release with Ben Long and create a stomping remix for the latest Space DJz track “Force Majeure”. Karl’s own monster track “Mind Control” is being released in December on 12” with the famous Berlin based label, Killaz & Error Records.

Luke Creed’s style is both menacing and energizing. He is known for his slamming beats and brilliantly changeable styles. Luke plays the Decks and Ableton live but his main focus at the moment is Ableton. Creeds' Gobsmacked releases (including "Straw Dogs", ''We Are Happy People'' and "Another Day") are dance floor annihilators, fusing elements of acid, industrial techno, Electro and hard techno. With a summer of releases on the way, including collabs with Diarmaid O Meara, Karl Cullen, Millhouse, Dermot Bateman and more to be confirmed, Luke is definitely one to watch for the future.
