Subliminal message used in rigged Independent Referendum Commission's guide

Definition: "A subliminal message is a signal or message embedded in another medium, designed to pass below the normal limits of the human mind's perception. These messages are unrecognizable by the conscious mind, but in certain situations can affect the subconscious mind and can negatively or positively influence subsequent later thoughts, behaviors, actions, attitudes, belief systems and value systems".

Take a look at the front of the Independent Referendum Commission’s guide to the 2009 Lisbon Treaty referendum. You will notice a pair of hands in the shape of a Y holding up the Lisbon treaty. In other words its a subtle Y used to portray a "YES" message across. Any other shape could have been used but they deliberately chose this one.

    20upv78.jpg

Don't think that this is by chance. The EU will spend millions on propaganda research and use any method possible to try and sway the population to a majority YES vote. subliminal messaging is not new, it was widely used during the war.

The EU was definitely behind this one and their aim is to make sure our Government will get a YES message right across to the indecisive SHEEPLE.

well spotted. i have to say if i looked at that all day i probably wouldn't notice a y:o

Im sure that if you look through this guide closely you would find that it is riddled with them.

If you look at the left hand side, follow the knuckle up, then go diagonally down with the thumb and back up the other side of the thumb, you get an "N" for No!!!!!! And it's mirrored on the other side too!!!! This is proof that the No side are trying to use subliminal messages to trick the sheeple into voting No!

Or if you turn it upside down, look at the middle word. Starts with 'NO'. The Yes and No campaigners must have pooled their resources together to spread their opposing subliminal messages!

This is definitely a subliminal yes message. If you also look closely you will see the letter y on the right hand side resting on the right hand.
    This was deliberately done.

OMG!!! I read the booklet earlier and found myself feeling really hungry. Now i realise why! The word "EAT" is hidden on the front of the booklet. I never believed in this subliminal stuff until now...

Subliminal messaging by the yes side= bad.
Out and out lying by the No = good?

Heaven forbid anyone actually point out something wrong with the contents of leaflet.

the ends don't justify the means King Mob, well I don't really have a problem with it in this instance, its just clever advertising.

Does anyone else find the what this europe thingy ad to be incredibly patronizing? Its not as bad as the 02 ad though which portrays all its customers as ducks.

God yeah. In the cinema last week and they played it not once, but twice.

As for the op, I'm not sure, although if you look at it it's very poorly designed. Usually the purpose of those two cupped hands in logos is that the hands are actually holding something, like here. It looks odd to me because there's just text between them.

This was funny nonsense when I saw it in the politics forum and it's still funny nonsense now.

They can't complain about the contents of the leaflet so start making up stuff about the imagery. I'm just shocked there's no illuminati or masonic imagery in there.

The EU already went down that road of Illuminati / masonic symbolism and they are not that stupid to make the same mistake again. The world has got a lot wiser.

We have also learned quite a lot from previous dictatorships about propaganda and sublimal messages so this is nothing new.

Didn't we already point out that that image was created by a anti-EU advocate?

Not to my knowledge, it appeared on a poster promoting the EU to Eastern block countries in the late 90ies. The original is kept somewhere.

That you could never actually find.

Any luck finding any factual errors in the leaflet?

    lol well spotted.
i do believe that is a subliminal message on at least two counts.
my first actual impression when looking at that picture was it looked like the holy grail.and i thought that was a little strange.
it does indeed look a fair bit like a Y also.
it wouldnt suprise me if this was the intention to push votes a certain way.
this isnt really anything that new though when compared to modern day sophisticated advertising.and i guess makes sense that when the powers that be bring out a supposedly non bias booklet they cannot resist pushing there luck.

anyway this works rather well as we all know. most likely if it wasnt pointed out people would not conciously notice this at all.

    interesting stuff!

ps id love to know is the original posted a rather introverted person? i believe introverts are alot less prone to hypnosis and other influences outside of themselves. just curious

Interestingly a poster on another forum suggested that it resembled the chalice of a Roman Catholic Church containing the host, Ireland still has a large percentage of devout Mass goers that may have this subconciously in the back of their minds. Was this also intentional?

That's it. Like FF drawing the votes from oldies with pension hikes pre-election.

Bluddy simple, mass goers unite! Vote Yes (Y) for some mystic but good cause.

Anyone hear Cowan on the radio this week using NLP-style embedded subliminals?

To paraphrase what he was saying, he said "such and such will happen if we vote yes, and this will happen if we vote yes, and the other thing will happen if we vote yes".

Honestly, I'm wearing my tin-foil hat out at this stage.

    Seriously?
Brian Cowen uses neuro linguistic programing?

    This is ridiculous.

Why is is so sinister that he used the phrase "if we vote yes"?

Seems like anything at all is a subtle brainwashing thing.

Dose anyone have any insight into who designed the graphics in this hand out?

Was it designed in Ireland? Did it get EU Parliament approval first before it got let out?

I doubt it very much if ithis work was handed out to children as a school project competition. Grown up men were involved who had a certain agenda in their minds .

It has to be the work of professional designer who knew plenty about marketing and impact.

Is there any way one can find out who was responsible and the cost? I doubt if it was done cheap.

the actual written content does not have to be bias, true or false for the cover to have the disired effect it only needs to not take away from the motive of the cover.
i think most are just implying that this was made by people who want it passed and the picture shows this pretty clearly.
it certainly isnt a neutral picture to me.
if you watch alot of jordan maxwell or micheal tsarion you will start to learn alot about symbolism and how it is used.

Good point, it could have rocked the boat if theyy had included different races in the booklet. There will be plenty of "foreign" Irish Nationals that will be voting on this issue on October 10th.

I think this is a very racist document to be honest. It's the opposite of
multicultural.Any other document or TV add these days has to put in at-least 1 African 1 Asian 1 Muslim and 1 white person to keep everyone happy. So why haven't they did this in guide to lisbon?

And the Irish version is printed upside down, that must mean they think anyone who speaks Irish is a backwards hick.

    This is absolutely ridiculous.

You can't find anything in the actual booklet to make it look like it baised so your stretch for any ridiculous thing you can grasp on to, no matter how far fetched.

But all in the name of democracy right?

The person/marketeer/graphic designer who designed this cover was obviously pitching it as something that might have the bye-line - "The Lisbon Treaty - It's in your hands". That's it. End of. This stuff about subliminal messages is nonsense.

I'm neutral on the treaty so my view that there's no subliminal intent isn't influenced by any particular stance one way or the other. Just makes common sense that "it's in your hands" is the message that was intended. People are reading far too much into it. I'm genuinely not trying to be funny but do you smoke hash by any chance?

    You didn't answer the question.

In any event the fact that a handful of people post about this on two other sites doesn't mean anything. All that proves is that a handful of people on two other sites also believe there's something subliminal in this. If they're posting on these sites, it would also indicate that they're interested in and monitoring the Lisbon debate which in my view makes them overly sensitive on the issue and more prone to reading something into it when there's actually nothing awry.

Thank you. No need to get shirty. I did point out that it was a genuine question and that I wasn't trying to be funny. The reason I ask is that I used to smoke hash every once in a while, a long time ago, and this is precisely the kind of loony tune stuff that I'd be convinced of. Then I'd sleep it off and some semblance of rationality would take hold again.

    I must say it's a good spot from Run_to_da_hills.

As for the possibility of this really being a subliminal, that is down to each individual.
Most people don't see subliminals even though they're all around them everyday in the media and billboard advertising.
I don't think there is any real argument against the existance of subliminals although some posters would happily take me up on that regardless of the evidence.

As for the comments about racism earlier in the thread, I'm not so sure that was intentional, although the bunch of smug twats in the pictures don't really give a true representation of modern Ireland.

    Glazers Out!

A picture worth like a thousand words
this isnt a well known saying for no reason i would think.
have a look into brainwashing and advertising techniques also hypnosis and how the introvert extrovert works.
it is very effective these seemingly simple images.
and a great topic for conspiracy theorists :)
alot of insightful people in these type of forums.
but sometimes it takes one to know one :(
and the battle rages on lol

i guess its this touchy lisbon topic has everyone fired up lately.
this is supposed to be a more chilled out forum i would hope.
for conspiracy enthusiasts to bounce ideas off each other ;)
