Any opinions on-board regarding the Media Coverage of the "Announcement".

I`m assuming this is the actuality of the Landing Gear and APU shops being "accquired" by another entity after SR Technics upped sticks ?

It was perhaps instructive to note RTE News attempting to give SIPTU a dei facto representative role through interviewing Pat Ward whilst the Dublin Aerospace front man,Conor McCarthy somehow or other epitomizes the style of manager who "won`t have a trades-unionist about the place" a la Lord Brookeborough.

One thing is sure this operation will not be a TEAM/FLS/SRT player in terms of wage rates...expect a lot of performance-related payments and other lean hungry inducements to be at the fore.

The Fingal Indo catches the mood quite well......

    Management buy-out indeed !!!! :D

Maybe that mightn't be any harm.

No "barriers" or strolling off to do your business on Company time for this lot I would guess.;)

I for one think this is a great announcement for Irish Aviation. While the scale is a lot smaller than Team/FLS/SRT it is keeping aviation engineering alive in Ireland.
I had a similar discussion with someone recently who was an employee of SRT. While I sympathise with the individuals who lost their jobs, I think the industry itself is very important to Ireland. Whatever it takes to keep it here was needed, while not good for the individuals who have to take a huge salary hit.

The RTE report wasn't too clear. I assume this new company will take over the remaining part of SRT. Don't they still have 3-400 workers to service the Aer Lingus contracts.

If they have any sense, it won't be a union shop. Frankly unions cost jobs these days. The nature of the aviation busines is that you have to be competitive in price with other shops abroad. Airlines can send their stuff anywhere in the world and will. Being Irish won't help it all when it comes to Irish airlines. High standards are a given but cost is very important.

If this new company is to survive it wll be non unionised and pay will be related to performance. That's the way things are in the real world these days.

RTE reportage is seldom "clear" in any sense as it has to pass through so many filters before reaching the hungry public.

However my understanding is that Dublin Aerospace is purely a component overhaul business with no interest in the remaining Line Maintenance rump of SRT.

AFAIK Line Maintenance has gotten a reprieve until the end of October before Ms Coughlan will doubtless have yet another Photo Op.....only question is will it be a positive or negative one ?

The company has a website which, if still accurate, indicates that the business will include base maintenance, with work on the A320 family as the preferred core business.
