    Folks

not sure if this is on the correct thread but i'm assuming it is.

My club are in the process of setting up a bar within the club.
It is only going to open for functions, not a 7-day a week job.
We are awaiting our license to be granted and then operations will begin if successful.

Have any of ye any experience in the setting up of such bar and if so any advice which may be useful?

The following areas are of particular interest:

    Tax
    Bar Rules
How it is run (By who)
    Finances

    thanks

This is one serious undertaking and can have huge implications on your club.

At the end of the day most things in your club land at the table of your chairman and the executive committee, it did when I was chairman of my club:(.

Is your club rural or urban?

What is your membership? (numbers wise)

Will your bar be ran on a volentary basis or will you pay someone?

Will you be liable for rates? if so how much?

Fingal base the rates on all our premises which is a big burden.

If you have many U/21 players encourage them to have 21st in club. This way you are advertising your club every time you have a function.
    Sell tea and coffee.
Dont use vending machines for soft drinks.
Be fussy about who you serve
If you dont have social membership get it for people who might just drop in for pint.
For functions use licensed doormen not members of club
Whoever serves must wear a club top or shirt and tie.

Send me a pm and I will discuss it further with you.
