Not very cycling related. But I was really curious so I just thought I'd see if anyone on this forum had witnessed more than me :)

Came down Grove Rd this morning filtering to the top of the lights. Portobello college was on my left with the bridge in front of me. There was a guy on a bicycle in front of me shouting at some little guy on a Vespa scooter. All I heard was "...but you were on a bike!" and then he tries to hit the guy on the Vespa in the head..... which made no sense because the guy on the Vespa was wearing a motorcycle helmet?!?! The guy on the Vespa held up his hand with palm extended in that sort of submissive/I don't want any trouble kind of way. Then the guy on the bicycle sped off through the red light :)

At first I thought the guy on the Vespa might have used the cycle lane, but then another cyclist came over to Vespa guy and said something like "just forget about it, its not worth it" and a then lady walked over and offered more words of comfort to the Vespa guy.... something like "that guy was an a$$hole, forget about it".

So just wondering did anyone here witness the whole thing? I'm just really curious what exactly happened between the guy on the bicycle and the guy on the Vespa!!

Admit it: you're trying to bring up the helmets debate again, aren't you?

If the guy on the bike had been wearing one it would have held his rage in and so prevented this outburst.
Hope he was wearing MTB style glove otherwise he might have hurt himself hitting the Vespa guys helmet

no no, actually I don't bother wearing a helmet when I go out for my cycle :) That's a terrible admission! But one day I just went out without my helmet and after that I just never bothered again with it! I will be getting some good lights though for my bicycle soon.

I'm just really curious to find out why those two were arguing. At first I thought the scooter guy might have used the cycle lane. But then I wouldn't expect any sympathy for him from other cyclists if he had? So I was hoping someone else here might have been there also and can fill me in :D

As a gross generalisation, I've noticed that scooterists seem to be about as badly behaved on the roads as cyclists, whereas motorcyclists are paragons of virtue.

Presumably the badly behaved motorcyclists don't last very long.

I think it's just easier to remember the bad ones over the good ones.

Anyway we're all just 6 people away(6 degrees of separation?) from any other person on the planet, so hopefully I can check back in a few days and I'll know what happened!

You might find out what Kevin Bacon had for dinner, but that's probably it.
