    Hi Guys n Gals,

Do you know of any good garages near Clontarf who can repair my Merc A class automatic car? Did not spend much when buying the car.. so do not want to spend much on the repair.. it refuses to start :(

I can go to an authorized Merc dealer, but I'm sure that will be very dear.. So, please help me find a garage near Clontarf who can fix my automatic car.

    Thanks a mil

Could be something as simple as a dead battery, are you with the AA or similar, or have a friend that is, if so call them first to get a diagnosis.

    Hi Stevie,

Yeah, I am with AA, but unfortunately did not have "home start" option until yesterday. I have it now, so should be able to get them to start it so I can take it to a garage for better analysis.

So was hoping to know some good garages nearby who could fix my automatic for good

    Cheers,

The A class was never reliable at it's best tbh. I was walking through an estate a few years ago and noticed a perfectly ordinary A class sitting in a driveway that sloped towards the house, engine off. Nobody in the car, house door was closed. All of a sudden there was a 'pop' and the car rolls down the very short driveway and into the porch with a BANG! Looked like the handbrake failed. Hilarious really, and I've never trusted 'em since.

On topic, any garage will be able to have a look. You're going to need a recovery truck anyway.

Tell us what happensa when you turn the key, does it make any sound, do the headlights work, does the dash light up ??

Are you sure the car is in Park ? If not select Park or Neutral, if you can.

Re: is the car in park?
Thanks for asking - am a new driver and have one experience of panic when I tried to start the car in Drive and it wouldnt :D

The car is in Park indeed; Also, tried starting the car in Neutral - no luck

Re: what happens when I turn the key
When I unlock the car, the interior light comes on, and is bright enough. So, there is life in the battery - looks like

When I turn the key in the ignition to ON
    - all the dash lights come on
    - i wait for a while, and most of the dash lights go off
    - now I turn the key further and try to start the car
    - the car does not turn over properly; there is continuous clicking sound (comparable to a gas lighter clicking away without the gas catching fire); the lights on the dash blink along with the clicking; the car never starts
    - tried the head lamps, hazards, fog lamps - all light up, and are bright enough, again looks like there is enough juice in the battery

One thing I missed to mention - the last I started the car was 3 weeks ago. I was not driving for the last 2 weeks.. I come back and try to start the car and it wont budge

    Cheers

Your battery's flat, get a jump start/charge/booster pack and you'll be away. The battery has enough remaining charge to operate the lights, but not enough to start the engine.

Dead battery. Turn on the headlights. Are they bright? Then try start. See what happens with the headlights.

If it goes flat again without reason then you'll need a new one. They only last 5 or 6 years typically.
