Is there a cooling off period for employment contracts?

    If one signs a contract, and then subsequently decides within a few hours, that the terms were unacceptable. Reason I asked is, was offered a job. Job had one title. A month later, I was due to start. Went to work. All new employees were presented with a massive contract and asked to sign. Although I found several elements disagreeable, I signed (foolishly). I then started running through the terms in my head which included the requirement to work over 48 hours for no additional pay and a note that 4 weeks notice had to be given to leave, but employer not obliged to give any notice. As the day went on, I realised that it was not like the job I thought I applied for, so I left and informed the manager. Woried, as I broke the terms, but felt I had little choice, as the job was a total scam. An attempt to, as far as I could see, get me to work for below minimum wage. Also, I never kept a copy. Am I entitled now to request a copy, or would that just be foolish?

    What would be the point? You are not going to use that employer as a reference; the employer is not going to sue you for breach of contract.
    I am sure the same thing has happened many times before with that employer.

    No I'd say your OK you didn't even start work really so no harm done. What could they force you to do really?
