Handicap Question

    Im new to the forum so hello...

    i currently dont have a gui handicap, used to play off 18 when i was younger, currently play off 20 in my golf society. am on a weeks hols next week so me and my mate want to try get a round in in one of the better courses around but some courses look for proof of handicap. is this generally enforced? another mate has a handicap but isnt playing much at the minute so could i borrow his and tell a white lie? any advice??

    that would be an awful crime;)
    know the rules and do not hold anyone up,
    leave the course as you found it,

    lots of places don't ask too by the way
