This offering appears to be good at first glance, but I cannot see how it can actually work over copper.

Am I being too sceptical ?

It works, but not very well.

Over fibre, with the right gear it can work well, but honestly I wouldn't bother with it over copper, just not enough bandwidth, specially if you want to do multiroom.

Also homevision don't have a good reputation over on the broadband forum.

I've seen a trial of it running over a 12 meg Irish ADSL2+ (copper) line. Wasn't too bad but could've been better. Trial was canned though.

I've watched IPTV over ADSL2+ (copper) in Paris and was absolutely BLOWN AWAY! They've had it for at least 6 years (I think). I couldn't believe how good the picture and sound quality was, huge channel line-up, interactive, Video On Demand, premium movies, recording, games using the snazzy remote control, it was INCREDIBLE!!! And then... I flipped to an info channel which told customers that their box would soon be replaced by a HD box - O.M.F.G :-O

The annoying thing is that the person who has it was just like 'yeah whatever, it's just telly'. - Feck, I'd give half a leg for something like that!! Time for another visit, lol ;)

    It is what it's.

I actually have IPTV from Smart, but it will be going away at the end of this week :(

Fibre To The Building, then 12 mb/s ADSL2+ line to each apartment. MPEG4 SD at about 3mb/s. Picture quality was excellent, almost DVD quality on some channels.

However unfortunately nothing fancy like VOD, etc.

I was on that trial too.

It was fine on my line (3.5 km long, max 10 Mb), and worked with multi-room too.

Yes, I was actually running three streams at the same time. One to multiroom and two to the PVR that had dual tuners.

It was quiet a promising system. They had some very cool plans for it. Pity.

Whatever about IPTV in general, homevision as a provider are absolutely brutal. Flick through the posts for info and take the advice to stay away!

There was Magnet IPTV in the place I was staying when I was working in Dublin. Seemed OK at first, but the (Amino) STB was infuriatingly unresponsive and the picture looked like it was significantly lower resolution (horizontally) than with UPC or Sky.
