Just a quick question. How busy is the pool in Carlisle gym? I'm talking about maybe from 8-10 in the evening, or from 7.30-8.30 in the mornings?

I've got back into swimming recently, and I've been using Terenure College Pool. It's a decent pool but at €6 a go, several times a week, it's not pocket friendly in the long term!

No they're not getting rid of the pool.
But its very busy in the evenings. You'd probably be alright from about 20:30 but im not sure about the mornings.

Any time I've been there the pool has been uncomfortably full. It would be least packed in the mornings before 9:30. Although I've never been there later than 8pm so I can't say what it would be like at that time.

Was down there yesterday evening between 6-7pm and it was the busiest I have seen it. There was 9 in the middle lane, think they were together doing laps, going at a decent tempo. Then there were at least 5 in each of the other 2 lanes. And as per usual there's always one that will be taking ages and slowing everyone down, dont see why they can't move to the open area. And it can be too difficult to overtake if there are already 5 or 6 swimming in the lane.

It does get quieter like one poster said around 8-8.30pm

I use to go at 6.30am in the morning when it was quiet, but it's even now getting busy at that time, you're talking probably 3 to a lane.

Cheers for the replies. I thought it would be fairly busy alright. I might ask in Terenure College to see if they have any monthly rates, as I'd really like to continue building on what I've done.

I am thinking of joining here. Is there a waiting for any of the machines or a weights bench?

Its a great price but I dont want to spend half my time there waiting around to use the facilities.

It depends on when you go.
I use the Carlisle either before work (8am-9am) or just after lunchtime (2pm-3pm) and it's fine then. Saturdays and Sundays aren't too bad either.

If you go at peak times, you will be waiting around to use weights.
There seems to be a lot of kids there arsing about in the free weights section, not doing a whole lot but hogging the benches.

I second most of what FavouriteSlave, siad although if you can get there between 12-2pm it's a bit quieter than 2-3pm.

The Carlisle is pretty much always busy, but at peak times it's jam-packed. Also, there is a high concentration of kids, even under 14s, and there are more and more signing up all the time.
