Last Minute Long Haul deals?

Just wondering if it's possible to get last minute long haul deals the same as you often see for package holidays? Surely the airlines are left with empty seats on some flights & would rather fill them cheaper last minute than leave them empty? We're hoping to go on holidays in a few weeks but aren't sure as yet if we can…

When we find out it's literally going to be a case of having to go within the next week if we're going to at all...

Anyone know of any good sites / travel agents for this sort of thing?
