    Tuesday 8th September

    The Player’s Choice Freezeout

    New tournament idea

A freezeout with a difference….. You can choose your own buy-in.
The amount you buy in for determines your starting stack.
    There are 4 choices;
    €25 = 2,500 chips €50 = 5,000 chips
    €75 = 7,500 chips €100 = 10,000 chips

So.….Do you wanna get in cheap and nurse a short stack?
Or do you wanna splash out and lead from the front?
    The choice is yours!

Doors open at 7.45 pm for 8.30pm start.
There will be no Early Bird chips for this tournament.
The registration fee will be €5 per player.

Nice to see something different but i really dont like it. Obviously and understandably there is no guarentee. The problem i would have is why would i pay 100 in when i could be up against a field of lets say 11 the other 10 have all paid 25 in. Then i am paying 100 in with a chance of winning a 1st prize of probably 250 with 2nd getting 100. Bad odds imo. Hope it works and i could be wrong but that was my 1st impression when i heard about it last week.

Like the idea but would rather see more of an incentive to buy chips

    Rather than the four choices:

    €25 = 2,500 chips, €50 = 5,000 chips
    €75 = 7,500 chips, €100 = 10,000 chips

    How about

    €25 = 2,500 chips, €50 = 5,500 chips
    €75 = 9,000 chips, €100 = 13,000 chips

I reckon this would work better if it wasn't so expensive to get the max chips. I'd probably only take the 5k option and be happy enough because the risk v reward would never warrant the full buyin.

I like the fact Alex is trying something different and hope it works out. I think it work better if it was something like..

    buyin €25 - 2500
    €40 - 5000
    €55 - 7500
    €70 - 10000

    or

    buyin €25 - 2500
    €40 - 5000
    €55 -8000
    €70 - 11000

Good idea. Not around to play on Tue 8th but think Tony's idea of lower amounts and increasing chip percentages is pretty good.

This! I think that unless you knew everyone else was buying in for €100, it would be terrible to buy in for €100 yourself

And this! Defo looks better and I think it would appeal to more people.

WP to Alex and co for trying something different though, good to see!

It was of a similar idea Pat!

Paying €100 for 13k chips is far too much (money and chips). If the majority of the field has bought 3-5.5k chips and spent €25-€50, then your extra 7k chips is worth way less than the €50 you paid for them.

If its a slightly smaller buyin, it would cater for all different styles. There's a lot that would pay the €55, and then sure you might aswel pay the €70 and get the full qouta and have a decent deep structured tournie on a Tuesday night.

I'm not sure on scrapping the idea of the early bird for this tournie though. It would be a huge advantage to turn up 10 mins late for this game, have a look around what most bought in for, and then buyin for a similar amount.

Maybe rather than giving an early bird chip, each player that buys in after the tournament has kicked off, receives a "late bird" deduction of 250 chips per buyin (excluding the initial 2500). e.g i turn up at 9.15, my options are now.

    buyin €25 - 2500
    €40 - 4750
    €55 - 7000
    €70 - 9250

    or

    buyin €25 - 2500
    €40 - 4750
    €55 -7500
    €70 - 10250

Thanks for the positive feedback lads, some good ideas there.
If it proves popular enough to run again, we can definitely look at tweaking the structure a bit, as Pat and Tony have suggested.
I really think this tournament has great potential, so hopefully we can get a good turnout on tuesday for anyone who likes the idea.

    The Structure

    25 – 50 – 20 min clock
    50 – 100
    75 – 150
    100 – 200

    15 minute break

    150 – 300
    200 – 400
    300 – 600
    400 – 800
    500 – 1000
    600 – 1200
    800 – 1600

    10 minute break

    1000 – 2000 – 25 min clock
    1500 – 3000
    2000 – 4000
    3000 – 6000
