What should i be looking at cost wise for an engagement ring. Is there a tradition for this kind of thing?

    Are there Do's and dont's?

A smart reply would be "How long is a piece of string?", which I appreciate is not so helpful.

There are too many variables for anybody to advise you. For example:

    What are your/her/his expectations?
    What is your available budget?
    What is your timescale?
Are you set on obtaining a certain style, ct weight, clarity, shape or cut etc?
Do you want plat/wg or yg?

The good news is that this search can be a happy time and hopefully you will only have to do it once...;)

well i have seen my perfect ring and it had a price tag of €250.

if my OH spent more then €500 on a ring i would be bloody annoyed,

But thats just my personal opinion. it is really up to you and what you can afford. i dont see the point in getting in to debt over a piece of metal.
