Hi, hoping for some opinions on this.

I'm currently in bed recovery from surgery. will likely spend most of the next 6 weeks in bed, with light walking the only reccomended physical activity.

How much should I be eating? how many calories should I be consuming?

My appetite is the same as ever and i've been eating what I normally eat. but this can't be good since I'm hardly burning any calories at the moment?

I am currently eating: Breakfast: cereal. lunch: sandwich and jogurt/crisps, dinner: smaller portion of a normal dinner. a few cups of coffee and maybe some toast in the evening.

    any advice?

Improving the quality of your diet would be a good start. You've got a lot of junk, and it's the sort of junk which makes you feel hungry again quickly.

There's a trend now to treat obese bedbound patients with a very low carb diet. Ketogenic diets (very low carb) tend to be muscle sparing compared to other diets, so they are ideal if you can't exercise much. They also tend to reduce hunger so you should be able to reduce your portion sizes a bit.

A typical keto diet would be something like boiled or scrambled eggs for breakfast, maybe with some spinach or mushrooms, fish and a green salad for lunch with an oil and vinegar dressing, and steak and veggies for dinner. No cereal, bread, yogurt, toast, crisps.

If you are looking for a calorie number, then about 10-11 calories per pound of weight is probably suitable as an upper level while you are stuck in bed.
