    DETAILS OF THE EVENT

This should be a fantastic event and of interest to everyone, both Judoka & spectator alike.

Message from the President and Chairman of the Irish Judo Association and the Northern Ireland Judo Federation..

"On behalf of the Irish Judo Association and the Northern Ireland Judo Federation, we would like to take this opportunity to welcome all participating teams and delegates to the Irish Judo for Peace Team Event, which will be held in Citywest Hotel in Dublin on the 7th November 2009

While many areas of the world continue to suffer the detrimental effect of conflict, the island of Ireland has thankfully largely left their own troubled history behind, and all can look to the future with a renewed hope. This resolution only came about after a long struggle, and through the hard work, dedication and strong beliefs of a number of people, who were unprepared to let differences continue to tear communities apart.

It is essential that the role of sport in the move towards a better future be recognised, as in many cases, it was only at different sporting events that the issues, which proved so divisive in other aspects of life, were left aside. This was and remains true for the community of Judo in Ireland and is central to the ethos of Judo and the Judo for Peace programme, which strives to provide a safe and non-violent environment open for everyone to enjoy the sport of Judo.

Many children, who practised judo on this island throughout our history benefited from the influences and ethos of the sport. These benefits continue to be seen through the development of the sport of judo both north and south of the border, and have resulted in lifelong friendships based on respect for all people.

"No-one can take away from children the activity we provide- nor the joy of sport"

We hope that all participants in our event enjoy their experience in Ireland and we would ask that all judoka recall the following quotation from Jigoro Kano's book, "Mind over Muscle

"I believe that world peace and the welfare of humankind must realize through the spirit that judo brings about."

Shame they didn't push it back a week.

Swedish Open is on the 31st & 1st with a training camp after it, then the Finnish Open is on the 7th & 8th.

If some of the teams were travelling to both they could of diverted to Dublin for the following weekend.
