    This thread covers the general issue of carrying children. That type of seat, on the crossbar, is rated by Allianz as the least safe option, with trailers being the safest, and rear-rack-mounted seats being between the two.

    Didn't like the look of it until I saw the video attached and that kid looked fairly chuffed, pretty cool bit of kit!

    Except that it's not a crossbar seat.

    Does its positioning make it equivalent to a crossbar-mounted seat?

    Just curious. I've nothing against the product.

    The crossbar seats I've seen (e.g. the one that lives in my shed) are just a small saddle with a clamp and a wire cage.

    This one is moulded plastic into which the victim is strapped, which is likely to offer better protection in an "off".

    Thanks for that clarification.

    That Alllianz report mentioned in the thread said: "Carrying children sitting in the area of the handlebars is strongly discouraged from a safety point of view."
    Also: "The transport of children in the area of the handlebars is particularly dangerous;
    when they are behind the saddle they come off lighter in head-on collisions."

    I wonder whether the authors would discourage use of the Safe-T-seat on those grounds, that it is carrying children seated in the vicinity of the handlebars? As you say, it's a better designed product than the standard crossbar-mounted products.
