Is it just me or is anyone else tiring of hearing the opinions of what's basically a fringe player?? in years gone by he'd have got nowhere near an Irish squad but here he is calling the shots on everything from recalling S. Ireland to the manager's contract situation ......concentrate on you're new move to Hull City Steven you'll need to

No- I think it's important that the players come out and support the manager and he's vision of the way forward for the team- if even the "fringe" players are happy he's doing something right.

Trap is a legend for the way he's taken a team that were annilated by Cyprus two years ago to being in with a shot of topping the group with the world champions in it

I think Trap has done a great job

but a few things niggle me like the Andy Reid situation

If its in response to a question from a journalist then I don't care to be honest.

Yes Hunt seems to be in the press a lot lately, but every time there is a game on the players are required to do some level of press work. Maybe Hunt is just one of the players more comfortable and more willing to do it.

Some players want to stay away from the media, Hunt lets them.

Wow, since when did supporting your manager publicly a bad thing all of a sudden?

Hunt is an important player for us IMO. He's entitled to his opinion.

He's featured in every squad for Trap and most of the games and the first player we look to, to change things when they aren't going well.

Makes no difference where he could have been years ago, he's a part of the squad now

Id rather hear Stephen Hunt's opinion on it than yours tbh, at least he's involved. What makes you think you can come on a forum and discuss people you've never even met, yet Stephen Hunt cant discuss the manager of the team he plays for?

It's probably very hard to prise interesting or semi-controversial opinions from the majority of the squad. If the media find a player that likes to profer opinions and speak up, they'll mine him. Like Humphries/Kimmage with Roy Keane.

You're probably reading snippets from a more general chat that have been blown up, rather than Hunt thinking it's time I let the world know about Trap's contract.

It's good to hear players with something to say, no?

Because I can..anyway I'd rather hear my opinion than yours or his, how does that go down....my opinion says don't offer Trap a new contract and drop Hunt asap

    He's not a fringe player.

Is it just me or is anyone else tired of these stupid threads.

Well Trap will be offered a new deal.
    Hunt won't be dropped.
It seems only you have the opinion of getting rid of both.
Which i guess means..........Oh yeah!, your wrong.

Well if you would rather hear your a opinion rather than hunts or the other poster it wouldve been a better idea to not start this thread INVITING opinions!! and just sat in your room talking to yourself is a great way of hearing your own opinion too!!!

    OFF THE STAGE DOGPILE......imo

As far as I know, players are asked by the FAI press office to attend press confrences. Logically, they'll ask the more talkative and/or senior members of the team. That's why some players appear more often that others.

This thread slagging Hunty better be closed in the next ten minutes.

    OP reported.

    Fringe player, my eye.

He's the player with the best fringe.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,584 ✭✭✭shane86

Presumably, for whatever reason, he is the easiest player for the media to get a word in with. Maybe hes mates with the journo who always quotes him.

On a similar note, is it just me or whenever anything Man City breaks, the first person the media go to isnt a former player, manager, executive, its feckin Noel Gallagher? Seriously, I cant think of one major piece of news about them where they have had the likes of Niall Quinn offer an opinion first over Noel.

Hunty obviously knows what the FAI are capable of and figures keeping Trap is a million times better than letting the FAI manager scouts loose and coming back with Roy Keane or Terry Phelan or someone bogey as next manager!

I don't mind Hunt coming out and saying this at all...

Better him than Liam (Unattached) Miller saying it!

    Why?

Liam Miller over anyone else has more interest in Trap staying and getting a new contract.

    :D
