    Hey people,

I'm in the process of starting a diet and watching out for the bad stuff.

Can anybody tell me if almonds, brazil nuts, hazelnuts and walnuts are healthy and what kind of calories do they carry?

They aren't so bad. They have alot of fats in them and have protein. Some now and then is fine because the have alot of calories I think.

13 pistachios equals 1 weightwatcher point. They are filling and therefore you snack a lot less if you have them. They are a healthy part of a healthy diet. Enjoy just control the amounts.

They are an important part of a healthy diet - full of minerals and anti oxidants like selenium, have an abundance of vitamins, fiber, plant sterols, protein and full of healthy fats. The fats in nuts are unsaturated mostly and are the fats that lower your bad cholestrol. Full of omegea 3 fats.

Generally 10 nuts is one portion and replace another snack you might have. They are high in calories so do nit go crazy but DO add them to your diet in some form. Almond is seen as the uber nut. 100gms is around 500ish kcals but this can change with the nut too.

Nuts are very good for you, lots of excellent fats and trace minerals (brazil nuts is one of the best food sources of selenium, something which most Irish people are deficient in), but they are high calorie.

Eat them, but watch your portion size.
