The Wii's internet channel has been updated, and is now free. For anyone who's downloaded it already, you'll be refunded with a NES virtual console game of your choice after end of October.

    Woop!

Hmm, interesting. Might actually get it now, as though I really need yet another device in the house that I can use to browse the web ;)

I saw this reported on Kotaku but they mentioned it in relation to US Wii owners. Is it free for us here in Europe?

I don't understand why they started charging for it in the first place.

Why do you have to wait until the end of October to claim your free NES download?:(

That's because RTÉ are stuck in the nineties with RealPlayer streams.

Really? When did this come about? I haven't touched their online stuff in a year, but when I did, it was all Real-based stuff. I remember downloading Real Alternative specifically to watch one or two shows. Every now and then I'd check their site and yup - they were still using Real Player, until last year or so at least.

Happy to hear it's flash stuff now... might actually visit their site.

No the RTE player is a new thing they only released a few months ago, its like the BBC iPlayer and is actually preety good in my opinion, they could do with adding some more shows but its a good start.

That's awesome, will have a look at that later on. It's fairly stupid alright that they list all those shows they've produced, only let people watch them for a while before they take them down. Sounds like it's the same with the new player. Maybe they're reluctant to spend money on bandwith or storage, or something.
