FW 3.0 causing problems

Last night when i went to quit game out of Batman the Ps3 beeped and went blank it was still on but nothing would work, controller was on but did nothing i ended up having to hold in the reset button for a good 15 seconds before it beeped and switched off.

I was just reading there that its also causing uncharted to crash as well.

Haven't seen this yet with FW3 - but I used to get it on the older versions if I played for too long / had the box on for too long - you know checking out the store, streaming vids and then playing.

Can you replicate the problem? i.e. Does it always happen or is just a once off?

I've experienced the same as Taltos.
I blame Batman for being so damn addictive :pac:

Wow I thought it was just my copy of Uncharterd. It happened just near the end of Chapter 2. I turned it off and went back to it later and it worked but the audio was out of sink and I could hear the laser constanly going, like it was loading in the drive, much more than it should have been.

Have many people had this problem OP? Any links?

I downloaded the new firmware 3.0 yesterday and started to play Fifa 09 against a friend and near the end of the game the HUD disappeared and there was no crowd sound. Then at full-time the game froze. Since then my ps3 won't read disks and anytime it does it gives me an error 80010514 when loading the game.
I rang Sony and they said it should be fixable by restoring factory settings, so I did. It took about 3 hours but afterwards the ps3 still would not read disks and if it did read a disk the error 80010514 screen came up while loading the game.
This morning, the ps3 read the Fifa 09 disk, the game froze at the same stage and it now either doesnt read or gives the error.
I want to blame the firmware update for this problem although it could well just be a coincidence that the blu-ray of death has struck soon after the update.
Also, my warranty is up.
And to think that this all happened on the release date of the PS3 slim!

I was playing ufc last night & the sound went during a fight & all i could hear was commentary, it only happened once i downloaded 3.0. Also when i watch a dvd I'm automatically signed out, this may have happened before but I've only noticed it last night.

I have a problem with Uncharted too. The game freezez in the exact same spot in Chapter 10 each time. I had played through the game entirely last wekk and was on my second playthrough. Downloaded and installed 3.0 and go to continue game and after a few seconds it freezes. Tried starting from an earlier chapter and when I get to the same spot it still freezes.

Thinking it might be a disc error I tried Resistance FOM for the first time and it froze after 3 chapters.

Not good.

Nothing happened to me.

I heard reports of it, and I was playing Batman when the screen started to get caught and the sound went all screechy - was part of the game! I thought it was 3.0 freezing the game for a second!

No problems here but i have seen the problem on previous firmware . Do not think it is related to FW 3.0

Quite a few are reporting the Uncharted problem on official PS3 boards.

That's an issue with the game - BF1943 has been causing problems since it came out, so it's not a Slim or firmware 3.0 issue. Be prepared for weapon glitches as well that will cost you a good few kills. Great game otherwise!

decent game but give me the fullprice version of the frostbite engine over it any day. lookin forward to Bad Company 2, played way more of that than COD.

I haven't played Battlefield: Bad Company, although I'm a big DICE fan, BF2 is just kickass.

I just read on the US PlayStation Blog that they're aware of the issues some people are having with firmware 3.0 and they say they're looking into it and hope to update as soon as possible.

so THATS why you're bigging up 1943 - try the full whack and you'll know 1943 is a purposefully inferior version of a great engine to reflect the fact its PSN game.. which is questionable imo. frustrating theyr only allowed release budget games on there because of the ability to trade. but for very few - Burnout Paradise surprised me when it became available.

I have tried the full whack - like I said Battlefield 2 is my favourite game by DICE. That doesn't stop BF1943 from being a fun game - it's a more arcadey version of Battlefield, more mass market I guess but still fun - which suits me as I prefer to play my proper BF games on a PC. As a cross platform release, the size of the game would have more to do with the size limits imposed on Xbox Live than on the PSN, where there are no size limits. Who said that you're only allowed release budget games on the PSN anyway? Developers have the option to limit the 'activation' of their games to one console, they just don't for whatever reason (well, bar Warhawk), so I doubt sharing factors into it at all.

EA/DICE have said that there are no plans for DLC for BF1943, which is understandable, seeing as they don't want BF1943 distracting people from the launch of Bad Company 2. So you're right it's looking like it is a 'purposefully inferior version' in some ways, I think BF1943 is only meant to tide people over until BF:BC2 comes out, or gain new fans for the 'full whack' Battlefield games.

played Battlefield: Vietnam years ago, was good for its time but all those trees and u couldn't even knock one down. can see the brickwork when you destroy a wall in BC, the destructible environment is still the best example to date cos Red Faction's job was crap. .. remember if they make a d/l limited to one console, you'd not be able to d/l it on another even under your a/c. that'd be only right for fullprice games, but would probs require a 'major overhaul' haha

.. when my PS3 was broke last week i d/l'd Warhawk off my friend's account, not really into it but best PSN game i got was Siren. remake of a PS2 title from 7yr ago.. but it had no trophies. Burnout surprised me going up on there but its not my cuppa. did remind me they could release these as a sort of 'Platinum' when sales of have dried up. rereleasing on PSN months later could possibly even then reap them more profit than the original release months prior. i think the big reason's they wanna have their physical product out there, but a 'platinum' PSN release makes only too much sense..
or rather the fact it doesn't happen makes no sense at all.


-n here i just read XBox is doing fullprice d/l 'games on demand'. theyr somewhat limited atm, whether thats tied to the fact their discs aren't really being bought at all but pirated it still proves once again sony need to get this on. i may be able to resist trekking to a store for an average game, but would find it hard to resist pressing 'purchase' on the XMB.

aw right thats cool then.. just got my playstation tuesday so didn't know that.. also im not very good at bf1943 yet so costing me kills isn't a major issue haha..

is battlefield bad company a ful game?? like you know the way bf1943 is just online is bad company an actual game where you play by yourself or what?

yep. and it has a worthwhile campaign, contrary to what others think. some folks didn't expect a single player from a BF game and when word broke they had a predetermined view of it - turned out the campaign was pretty good.

I played FIFA 09 today and no problems thankfully. Not noticed any yet.

I've had some problems with game updates since the 3.0 update - it can take a few attempts for a patch to start downloading. The PS3 either freezes or reboots after I click "ok" in the "new version required" screen.

Did it work?

I d/led Warhawk from a friend's account but it was locked to his - the only PSN game I know of that does this.
