    Hi.

Has anyone come accross this error message

    Windows cannot find 'and' ......

this came up the other day when trying to launch programs, I did a full checkdsk of the system and it found lots of corrupted files and fixed them

Most everything appears to be working fine now, however on one of my login attempts the error came up again.

Now I have run a full virus scan of the system and all seems OK.

I'd suspect either faulty hardware or a virus / trojan.

The system is using raid 1 however.

    Anyone come across this before?

Sounds like either a virus or a driver issue.

Someone smarter than me will know. Maybe take a look at the processes running when the message comes up and google any suspicious looking ones?

A few questions to clarify things:

What version of Windows are you running?
Are you up to date with service packs and hotfixes?
What anti-virus software are you using?
Have you run SFC (System File Checker)?

could be a badly unistalled or deleted program

take a system restore snap shot and the use ccleaner to remove broken or orphaned startyp programs in registry settings

do you get the same message in safe mode ?

this is a server running windows 2003 server.

thing is normally when you get a windows cannot find error message it gives your the file name that it can't find...

this is not doing that, its just coming up with 'and' where normally it would be a file name here which makes it odd.

I'm running trend on the systems and the server is running service pack 1 which is fully patched with security updates.

if a the trailing " on a filename in a setting or link is missing then you may not see the full name as it can truncate at the space

if it says c:\program it usually means "c:\program files\....
so and might mean "documents and settings
