Burning oil excessively

    Hi all,
Timing belt broke on me recently, causing some damage to valves etc in the engine. I got it repaired but ever since its been burning a huge amount of oil - I've topped up the engine with approx 4.5 - 5 litres since I got it back, and that's having done less than 300 miles. The exhaust is very smokey (white smoke) and since there is no evidence of any oil on my driveway, it seems to me that the oil is burning up in the engine.

Anyone any ideas what might have gone wrong here - how could the oil be getting from the top of the engine into the combustion chambers?

    Cheers

PS I fear my catalytic converter will be ruined from this!

Might the valve stem oil seals have been damaged along with the valves and not replaced?

THe garage said they'd replaced the seals - perhaps one is not sitting in place or something, or maybe they missed one.

I'd bring it back straight away, let them strip it down and find out what the problem is. Good luck.

Cheers, just needed confirmation that oil could indeed burn up that way. Its booked in now for monday, and they can bugger off if they think I'm paying for it!
