    ECW:

    - Vladimir Kozlov & Ezekiel Jackson won a squash match.* William Regal called out Christian, who brought Tommy Dreamer out with him.* Christian & Dreamer pulled out kendo sticks and beat down Kozlov and Jackson.

    - Sheamus defeated Goldust.

    - Highlights of Undertaker vs HBK from WM 25
    Smackdown:

    - Punk-Hardy recap video.

    - CM Punk comes out dressed as Jeff Hardy.* Some fans think it is Hardy at first.* Then they started booing as Punk heels Hardy. F'n hilarious. Punk is drawing SERIOUS heel heat, and calls out the Undertaker. Matt Hardy arrives and attacks Punk. Four referees break them up, ending the segment.

    - Teddy Long announces CM Punk vs. Matt Hardy in a non-title match for later.

    - Great Khali & Fit Finlay defeated Kane & Mike Knox.

    - Vince McMahon is here.* We get a kind of, sort of funny backstage piece with McMahon and Long.* This is followed by a backstage vignette with Maria and Michelle McCool.

    - Rey Mysterio vs. John*Morrison. *Lots of pro-Morrison and 619 chants.* In a great, fun and PPV quality 20+ minute match, Rey loses the Intercontinental Title to Morrison. *This match was fantastic.

    - R-Truth got jumped by Drew McIntyre in the ring.

    - Maria & Eve Torres defeated Natalya &*Layla.

    - Matt Hardy vs. CM*Punk went over ten minutes.* Then the lights went out, gong, lights back on, and Undertaker chokeslammed CM Punk through the announce table. *The arena went CRAZY for Undertaker's appearance.* No finish was announced for the match.

    - Steel cage being lowered now for the Dark Match.

    - DX defeats Legacy in a cage after a dual Pedigree/Superkick.

So after a few months of Rey vs Ziggler and grooming Ziggler for the title, they randomly drop it to Morrison, yay!

Yeah. I would have preferred Ziggler to just beat Mysterio for it here, attack him after the match, Mysterio feigns injury. Then Morrison could have went to Teddy Long afterwards and demanded an IC title shot at Breaking Point because what Ziggler did was wrong.

    Mysterio gets his month off
Ziggler gets more heat, and the title which he was probably going to win anyway
Morrison gets more cheers now that he's helping Mysterio like he helped Hardy

Don't see what the problem with this would have been

Evan Bourne d. Chris Masters in about 8 minutes with the "Air Bourne" Shooting Star Press. Started out fairly dull but turned into a pretty decent speed vs. power match toward the end. Masters used both a Torture Rack and Canadian Back Breaker as submission holds. Evan eventually hit Masters in the head with a knee to set up the SSP.

    William Regal b. Tyler Reks
    - The match goes back and forth. Regal gets the win with a kick to the head.

Natalya & The Hart Dynasty b. Eve Torres & Cryme Tyme
    - Natalya gets the win following a spinning lariat.

FFS Matt and Morrison i thought were going to feud with Jerishow for the tag titles  it would have been better have Rey drop the title to Ziggler

Am I the only one that sees this as a step backwards for Morrison? I always thought he was being groomed for World title contendership but now he's been lumped back into the IC title hunt.

Nope, they may not think he is ready for the world title, its not like he is getting insane pops every week. Morrison needs a proper feud instead of random matches and I expect him and Ziggler have to some awesome matches.
No need to push him to quickly. :)

Smackdown doesn't exactly have an army of faces to face Punk. Once 'Taker and Mysterio are done with him they'll need Morrison ready (and Matt Hardy isn't exactly a credible threat after his legs were cut off on Raw) and him being in the IC division means he won't be facing many main eventers to help further establish himself. A three or four month run with Jericho would do Morrison wonders but Jericho is too busy in the tag division.

I love to see Christian on SD now - he could one of the top faces along side Rey and Taker and also Christian/Punk would be a great feud

Morrison is going to need to get more popular as a face so they put his WHC on ice for a while until Undertaker's return hype goes down a bit. He will get his big push but I think it will be after survivor series at least.

They could of had Morrison v Ziggler with Ziggler having the belt considering the build up to it. Talk about killing momentum! Speaking of which, where is Ziggler?

But dropping down to the IC division, for me, is a step backwards. I don't think Morrison is ready for the WHC but putting him in the same bracket a Ziggler and Know (two of the top mid-card heels on SD) will bring his star power down by association in my opinion (in the same way as him facing, looking competitive against and occasionally (or frequently) beating the likes of Jericho, Punk, Mysterio etc. raises his profile by association).

jericho dropped down to the IC division recently, wasnt a step backwards for him, it only increased his heel heat and did great things for him, i think this could be a good thing for morrison, give him a good push and even get jericho back in every nowe and again to try get his 10th IC!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 937 ✭✭✭michael.etc...

Morrison winning the IC title isn't a step backwards at all. Having been held by Jericho and Rey over the course of the year has fairly rehabilitated the strap to the point where booked correctly, it could help elevate Morrison. Especially as it could allow him to do what he does best- have good matches. A Main event run would be a disaster before he really finds his niche, as for me, fans really don't have much reason to care about him yet.
Besides, with the IC belt, Rey often took residence at the top of the card on TV in tag matches- where Morrison could also be comfortable.

It looks to me more like they wanted Ziggler finally beating Rey to mean something, and it gives them something to go back to when Rey returns.

Besides, there's plenty of time for Morrison to be allowed to breathe before a big push- a feud with Rey or Undertaker or both should keep Punk busy for the remainder of the year.

But that's because Jericho is already so well established. It's like AJ Styles in TNA, he can jump between any division without hurting his credibility. Morrison will never make fans care about him by talking because he couldn't talk his way out of a paper bag (though I'd like to see how he'd do unscripted). The only way Morrison will get over big is through his awesome in ring ability or a huge angle that doesn't require him talking. My problem isn't necessarily Morrison winning the IC title but rather the standard of competition that comes with it. The top mid-card heels on SD are Knox, Ziggler, Kane and The Hart Dynasty and none of them are going to help Morrison get to another level.

An IC title feud with Jericho would work but he's too busy in the tag division and I don't see Jerishow dropping the titles to MVP and Henry. They should have had Ziggler beat Mysterio, have Ziggler put Mysterio out and feud him with Finlay in the interim until Mysterio returned.

How will Rey's exit be explained?

Did Morrison or Rey himself injury him badly

They don't even need to have Rey be written out to be honest, its only a 30 day suspension isn't it, thats like four TV episodes. No big panic.

It would have gotten Ziggler a decent amount of heat if they did write him out with a beatdown though.

All the same, Mysterio will be missing 2 PPV's. Even if it is only 30 days, because he misses 2 PPV's it looks like he has been out for a while.

Pretty awesome video WWE put together of Taker v HBK at mania 25 on ECW even if it did include a snow patrol song!

WWE talents have been talking a lot about Mysterio's Intercontinental Title match with John Morrison at Tuesday night's SmackDown tapings. The match is getting rave reviews within WWE and one fan in attendance called it pay-per-view quality.

I cant wait to see now

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 104 ✭✭Dime101

Dolph ziggler has the worst finisher in history.

He looks alot like morrison too,are they bros?

Morrison v punk or rey would be great.

I've already seen SmackDown, Rey/Morrison was an unbeliveable back and forth match. It really was a PPV quality match

yeah that was class, Punk really has been great every SD for ages.... but gawd why from the vault straight after the continuation of the Khali/Kane feud is Khali/Batista... 2 Khali matches in a row

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,517 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Who picks from the vault. They pick some really odd matches.

maybe not as much as the other two but no need for an embarassed smiley when McCool is involved imo ;)

nice to see Morrison getting a good reaction from the crowd here and if this match is as good as ive heard im sure that will only get better tonight

great match between rey and morrison looks like there starting to get some respect back into the intercontinental title

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,517 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Great to see a match like that anytime but to see it for the Intercontinental Title certainly brings more respect back to the title.

Great match really enjoyed that, nice pop for Morrison winning as well, and fair play to Rey for putting in that effort into a match he was losing the title for a suspension in, could have phoned it in but didnt, thats 2 of the best matches of the year Rey has been involved in

still wouldent expect JR to point out that Matt has a bit of a tummy on him atm, but still it gave me a lil giggle.

Once more SD was very enjoyable this week and much much better than the WWE's flagship program, Mysterio vs Morrison was one of the better matches ive seen in quite a long time.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,517 Mod ✭✭✭✭DM_7

Poor Matt. I thought it particularly bad timing to show a from the vault last week that featured a lean and healthy looking Matt back in his V1 "cruiserweight" days v Mysterio.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

I actually laughed when Matt came out at the beginning of the show to challenge Punk, he's the least intimidating looking wrestler in the WWE right now, some tubby, bow legged guy with a bad haircut and chinstrap wearing what looked like a purple maternity shirt waddling to the ring is meant to make the champ scared? pish

hahaha on the sky box...the information provided about tonights smackdown...

featuring Great Khali and finlay Vs Mike Knox and Kane...

of all the matches to try and sell us on.

Punk as Jeff was pure genius

    No Jerishow this week :(

Matt needs to lose the purple tights and maybe tie back his hair or cut his hair - OMG i sound like Gok Wan :o

Rey and Morrison was a great match
