Can anyone recommend a good winter jacket, the wind along the coast has had a sudden drop in temp and is very cold on the old chest, have a base layer and a gillet but had to get the old local newspaper to keep the chill out.

i have a good wind breaker by regatta that i got a couple years ago, keeps the wind and rain out, not particularly breathable which is both an up and downside in that your warm but you sweat alot

Yep, got it today and I must say I am very happy with it! I and around 5'7" but a very slight build - the size chart said I would probably be S but actually went for the XS because it was cheaper and available in the nice red colour. I could probably have done with the S alright but I will get away with the XS just fine, I don't really have any complaints! It will just be a tighter fit than usual, but I am really very happy with the quality. The sleeves are surprisingly nice and long for the size and have a really nice inner liner thats is very comfy and stops cold chilly breezes sneaking up your arms. Cuffs have a nice zip to expand (helps for taking it off) them and provide a looser more ventilated fit. The Body Clone sizing has a fit designed around you position while seated on the bike, so it looks absolutely ridiculous when standing up straight. Looking in the mirror it's like half way up my chest (well, not really! bit of an exaggeration, haha ) but up on the bike it seems to fit well all over (hopped on the indoor trainer with a mirror...sad I know! ). Now I just can't wait for it to get a bit colder so I can try it out properly! Would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clod weather winter jacket at this price, it genuinely was/is worth €162 if not more (like see here for example - they claim they won't be beaten on price and offer a price match facility, but when I asked to avail of this they responded: "Sorry, we can't match that price"! and that was it! Kinda funny I thought )

Received the jacket today lovely item and well worth the money , only problem one size up was not enough, so its going back for a bigger size.

Would love to know how Bally is getting on with the size smaller?

Wet this evening so the hands were cold and slippy. I need a pair (under €30 if possible) that will:

    Grip the bars solidly
    Block the wind
Keep me dry - not an absolute

I really like a pair of Specialized I saw in The Edge but they were €45, need to keep costs low.

Was wondering that myself ! He's 5'7, same as myself but I'm a bit broad across the shoulders and chest, and I went for medium and even at that it's what you would call snug, and Bally went for the extra small  What size did you get macadam, and how big are you ?
Anyway, the wife thinks it's nice and that's all that matters !

If anyone is looking for an Assos jacket I'd try eBay I managed to pick up an Assos 851 airjack yesterday for about €170 - still expensive I know but about €60 cheaper than the same jacket was in the shop on Saturday.

    Jip,

I tried mine on and I looked like DAV'ID out of Little britain , the sleeves wer to tight the waist was to short and it made my belly look twice the size it is , I have a 41" chest and 34" waist and just under 6' , got the XL as most other gear I take a large.
I have sent it back today for the XXL, will report back when it arrives.

Would love to see Bally houra in the x small he must be only 15 yrs old.

That was nice of you to give it to the wife, glad she likes it .

@ macadam, LOL. I can picture it, unfortunately.

Nope, I haven't given it to the wife, I think I'll stick with it. I must try it on again with a base layer and see how I look in the mirror, I think I'll get away with it without frightening little kids and old ladies. Plus it's an incentive not too put on the usual winter weight.
