If you think Pretty Woman why didn't you make that an option in the poll you created?

I watched The Hot Chick a while back and it is pretty funny, in a guilty pleasure sort of way.

I think I enjoyed The Devil Wears Prada a little more than I should have.

I lol'd at the sheer implausability of the ending, GF was not happy with me as it's her all time no.1 favorite movie.

When Harry Met Sally is a classic, and stands up to repeat viewings far more than any of the three listed above. (and any of the movies mentioned so far ... although have never seen The Notebook ... I have standards)

Can Shakespeare adaptations count as chick flicks? If so, then 10 Things I Hate About You, really enjoyed it every time I've seen it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,746 ✭✭✭✭Galvasean

    Titanic
I must admit I enjoyed Moulin Rouge. Although does it count as an out and out 'chick flick' since its a musical?
Speaking of Baz Luhrmann, does Romeo + Juliet count as one? I thought that was great.

The Truth About Cats and Dogs and maybe Mean Girls. That's it!

Say Anything is great - but is it a chick flick??

I love Sweet Home Alabama and Love Actually.

I adore Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe, but I'm not sure if it would count.

I don't really watch chick flicks at all, but I kind of half enjoyed The Girl Next Door, but I think that was just because the main character dude was the spit of my ex when I was younger.

    Titanic
Just a reminder for people to elaborate on their choices a bit. As you all know list threads are frowned upon in the Film Forum and we don't want this to descend into one.

is muriels wedding a chick flick , i dont think so , its not in the slighest bit sentimental or girly despite being about a girl who wants to get married , great movie either way

I have to admit (and i get stick for this from all my friends) but i have a real soft spot for Dirty Dancing, although it is more due to personal circumstance than the actual film.

    Notting Hill

"I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her"

    Jerry Maguire

    "You had me at hello"

Dirt Dancing. They showed this film in the cinema tent at EP over the weekend and the women were in an absolute frenzy while watching it - cheering at the best lines and going into hysterics during the dance scenes.

    It's a weird film though -
    abortions
and Swayze chasing a 16 year old etc.

I like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and The Science of Sleep, but im not sure how much of a chick flick eitherofthemare

I'd say it's one of those films where women get together to "support" each other, with men as optional accessories. Examples include Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, Practical Magic, How to Make an American Quilt, Mermaids, Mystic Pizza, Fried Green Tomatoes, etc.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

―Oscar Wilde predicting Social Media, in The Picture of Dorian Gray

Yea I'd vote for Jerry Maguire. It's one of those films that transcends chick flick to actually being a really good film with broader appeal

I know it probably is the best chick flick. Theres enough football in it to make it watchable for me and theres some "feel good chick stuff" (whatever the wimmins look for in their chick films lol) in there too

    Die Hard.
The touching story of a couple who rediscover their love for one another just as they're about to lose it all.

Brings a tear to the eye every time.

Go see (500) Days of Summer its awesome.
When Harry Met Sally and The Apartment are two other great Rom-Coms which seem to be the staple of chick-flicks.
