I was thinking of playing this tuesday but what is wrong with the structure???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Mr. Wolf

The blind structure for the Tuesday game is as follows:
$6k starting chips, $8k re-buy and $10k top up, all players can re-buy AND top up if they have the option to do so at the break.
There are 4x10 minute levels before the break, during this period players may re-buy if they lose their chips.
After the break the blinds are 20 minutes long (starting at $300/$600) the average stack after the break is normally between $22k and $24k.
Depending on the number of players, the blinds will decrease to 15 minutes after level 13. (Thats shortly after midnight)
Where time allows it blind levels will be replayed.
Unfortunately all mid-week live games are faced with time constraints which is inevitably going to put pressure on the short stacks in the tournament.

Just so we don't get side-tracked, this thread is about this years Cavan Poker Open (25th October at 6pm in the Lakeside Manor, Virginia)
The Cavan Poker Open has a $20,000 starting stack and 30 minute blinds.
This event is a fully dealer dealt, €200+€20 reg Freeze-out.
There is a minimum of €10,000 Guaranteed in Prize money for this event.
The last €200+€20 game we ran was The Monaghan Poker Masters in August which had 97 runners and €19,400 in prize money (€6,000 first prize with top 12 places paid).
We would expect at least the same number of players for the Cavan Poker Open.

Ten minute levels in a self dealt tourney.wtf. Are you for real??? You'd be lucky to see 5 hands a level. Who ever heard of the blinds reducing in length at the business end of the tourney. Laughable imo. If time constraints are so important to you please explain to me how come your happy to run cash tables to all hours of the night as you did the one and only time i played one of your games.

As ReRaise said a complete crapshoot. Avoid like the plague.

Lol at the double accounters first posts. Looks like you only joined boards to slag off an operator.

Do you like hiding behind your keyboard?

TBH, it is only a pub game you are talking about.

This thread is about the cavan poker open. GL derailing it.

I have to dissagree with you there sir , I have come across another post by the same op and it clearly states that he has dealers and the blinds are 20 mins after the break. However i think the blinds after the break are very agressive. But i will go and make my own mind up anyway.

I'd rather not have this thread derailed with reference to midweek pub games but the structure as outlined above is popular and seems to work for the majority of players, it is ostensibly a game which suits every pocket, players can pay €25 or €45 and in effect have a reg free tournament where prize money ranges from €1,200 to €2,000 every night (and even higher on occasion)
In a tournment of this nature it is important that the finishing time in no later than 2am. Even though we are in a hotel venue, if the game goes on to late then players will simply not come back. Those who wish to play the side tables can walk away whenever they want but this type of tournament must finish at a decent enough time.
The short blinds before the break and their lengthening after the break are both player oriented. The idea here is to put pressure on stacks early on so as to allow more play at the business end of the tournament. The 40 minute re-buy period normally sees very few re-buys with players tending to nurse their stacks til the break at which point they re-buy and top up and have a stack of approximately 40 big blinds with 2 to 3 hours of play in them.
I do appreciate the comments of Re-raise and Nutflush, we are always very keen to respond to player feedback especially brand new users on boards and if you have any constructive suggestions as to how to make this game more amenable without letting it drag on til 3 or 4am we would be very interested in hearing them.
Thanks in advance for any further advice
    Mick

Well done to Giovanni who won his ticket for this years Cavan Poker Open in The Meadowview, Cavan tonight. This game was a €50+€10 reg freeze-out and with 38 runners we had a total prize-pool of €1,900.

really enjoyed that game and venue in meadowview,
theres nothing wrong with the stacks in the tourneys the problem people had or have with last tuesdays game was that the chip leader, when six handed had over 90% of chips in play so yes the short stacks had no play, but thats always the case when you had one massive stack on the table... i was 4th on the night and i had no bad feelings or complaints about
