Actually I was wondering what the midi tracking is like in 8. Is it anything like 7.4? cause that's incredibly awkward too use. I really feel like they just threw it in there to compete with steinberg and ableton.

Much better. It has a proper midi sequencer now

Is PT 8 much heavier on the CPU lads?

I'm using HD2 on a Dual 2.5 Mhz G5 with 4 gig Ram. There was some issues with OS 10.5.5 and PT-8 or something at one stage. So I held back before installing it on a second start up disk.

Any body suggest what OS seems to be working correctly with 8.01 now?

At the moment I'm on Tiger and 7.4 but I have a second boot disk with 10.5 on it logic 8 lives on that disk too.

I was told not to use PT-8 with 10.5.5 or 10.5.6 or something I can't quite remember.

PT is qualified on 10.5.8. There were no particular issues with any Leopard builds AFAIK. You will have issues upgrading some of you plugs
    to UB/Leopard though.

Some Manufacturers charge some dont . Massive Pack McDSP/Eventide
plugs need to be upgraded at a cost. If you use a lot of VI's you will have issues, depending on what you have. In general VI RTAS use is worse on PT8.
If you are just recording/mixing you should only see a small drop in performance if any.

Does it make your music/mixs any better, of course not but the midi side has improved and new comping feature and automation lanes make life a bit easier.

Stick it on your Leopard boot disk to try it. There is no reason not to upgrade Leopard on that disk to 10.5.8 either way.
