Infomania

Infomania is the debilitating state of information overload, caused by the combination of a backlog of information to process (usually in email), and continuous interruptions from technologies like phones, instant messaging, and email.

It is also understood as distraction caused by the urge to check email, text messaging and other sources of information, which causes the person to show symptoms to neglect other, often more important things - duties, family, etc

Until recently, I always browsed the net in a laid back sort of way. Not really bothering about replies to posts on boards etc, and taking everything in stride

But now I have this urge to power browse threads and check e-mails etc constantly. Usually when I feel bored I blindly click links without really intending to read what they contain and so on.

Does anyone else ever do this?

Am I losing my mind? =(

I thought that's what the net was for?
This is also why I check the Thanks I've received at least once a day; validation of my internetness.

Yeah I'm the same.. I even post in threads that I have no idea of what they're about, click onto things that I know won't interest me, check my emails all the time even though I barely get any emails. I check my thanks on here all the time - I don't know why, I don't even care!

Recently, I've been so bored on the net that even porn's not fun

It's part of an age old human desire to be omnipresent and omnipotent, with the tinterweb, one can delude onself into thinking that one is everywhere at the same time and that one 'knows' everything.

The main problems with this are:

Internet omnipresence unfortunately has a detriment effect on your eyesight, facial hair and body odour, it is not, contrary to legend, conducive to pulling birds.

Internet omnipotence ignores the fact that the human brain has finite storeage abilities, every time you read the article at the other end of a link you forget something else - usually the pin number of your laser card.
