What can one do to make a neighbour stop throwing trash out of their backyard in the river, if talking to the person does not help? This trash might consist of small things like food, but also once and awhile a big platic bag.

Thats terrible carry on. Get your camera out and take a pic of them doing it. Then speak to the local council about getting them prosecuted.

Anything dumped in a river, including organic material is regarded as a pollutant.

Ok thanks, will go through the proper channels.

I've tried to take a picture, but the dirty little rat moves so fast. Also when I did mention it to him, he started on this long speech about my being a foreigner & how he's lived in the that house by that river for a million years & so forth.

I'm sure I can leave it up to your imagination the types of insults I had to put up with being a foreigner from this man. I told him, I don't want to trade insults with him, I just want him to stop.

Anyway enough ranting, I usually don't care what people do, but the amount of times he does this & the amount of trash he throws in is just ridiculous!

If you can, set up a camera and put it on record for the day. Watch as he puts the litter into the river. Then give the video to your council.

I'd contact the county council definately. Are you in a town or in the countryside?
