Differentiating "Skews" of Particular Model...

So I'm looking at buying a used Peugeot 407. Definitely interested in a diesel model, manual transmission, saloon body and have about 8-9 grand to spend.

I'll more than likely go the 1.6 diesel route as I've heard it's very economical. I don't particularly need the kick of 1.8 or 2.0 and I might as well save myself the additional costs associated with larger engine capacities in that regard. Consequently I'm looking at 2005/06/07 models.

The thing is, I see that there are various different "options", for want of a better word. There's the ST, the SR, the SE, "Solaire", "Comfort", "FAP" (whatever that is) - And I can't for the life of me find out what the difference between all these tags are!

The Peuegeot site itself is no help as it only makes reference to the "S" and "SR" and is primarily concerned with the '09 model, for obvious reasons.

Can anyone give me a lowdown on these different definitions? For example, does the "Comfort" range automatically refer to the 1.6 HDi, etc.? My assumption is it refers to things like "comes with larger alloys, dual climate control", etc.

Better yet, if there was a site somewhere that described all these differences (for various cars!), that would be fantastic. Surely there must be other people out there as naive and misinformed as me :)

    Thanks in advance!

"FAP" isn't what most people think it is, but the abbreviation for diesel particulate filter ...that much I know

Have a look at www.parkers.co.uk, but be aware that there may be differences between UK and ROI-spec cars.

All from memory, so may not be 100% (like my memory, damn age)

SR is the basic spec model. Wheel trims, front elec windows only, manual A/C
ST Comfort was next model up. Adds alloys, rear elec windows and Climate
SX was availble at some point, think it was similar to ST Comfort model but with different grill.
Solaire was a special edition which was based on the ST Comfort but also had a Sunroof and integrated bluetooth.
Pretty sure there was an SV model somewhere in there as well.

If it were me, I'd go for a Mondeo instead. We've had horrible trouble with 407 1.6HDi's when they hit high mileage. And I hate the 407 to drive, but that's personal preference.

    Irish Spec 407
SR: base model- electric front windows, electric heated wing mirrors, climate controlled air condtioning, cd player, front fog lights and plastic wheel trim.
ST: adds rear electric windows, dual zone climate control, electric folding wing mirrors, automatic lights, rain sensing windscreen, 16" alloy wheels, chrome surround strip on front and rear bumpers.
ST Solaire from 2007: adds electric tilt/slide sunroof, cd changer, bluetooth and wood effect interior door/dashboard inserts afaik.
Sport: adds 17" alloy wheels, white dashboard dials, sports suspension and sport seat trim.

S and SE are UK spec cars, S is similar to the SR, SE is similar to the ST.

Cheers for all the replies, guys. That was about 1,000% times more than I expected, really good stuff.

Matt Simis, believe it or not, I actually knew that and still went ahead with "skew". I've a 6 week old son at home and sleepless nights have left me void of coherent thought ;)

The 407's have some issues between 80-100k ....
(1)Diesel Particulate Filter's need attention around this milage.
(2)Dual mass flywheels can give trouble again at this milage.
but these faults are common on all modern Diesels...

    My 04 407 1.6 hdi is at 80,000 miles.......and i've already sorted out
my dpf issiue.....which i done myself....:)

I just put a deposit down on a 2006 407 SR yesterday. The mileage is high enough (93k) but I am not too bothered by it as its still less than my own car and I think the engine can handle it.

Row I think you might have helped my friend Dave out with his skywagon :D
The one good thing about my one is that it came with a nice wire mesh grill instead of the plastic one.
Can't wait to pick it up some time this week.
