Just saw there is a new episode coming on sunday night, I have been watching all the first series again (its a great show, love the way RTE make these good one offs every now and then), have i missed the rest of the second series or is this episode a once off?

One of the consequences of C 19 is that we are getting to see a lot of repeats.

If you missed Pure Mule first time around give it a try tonight.

I would like to see a rerun of the Gerry Ryan confidential interviews. I can’t remember seeing him screaming at Gordon Ramsay till I saw it on the recent RTÉ program.

    Just turned it on now.

Brings me right back to those crazy Celtic Tiger days.

Got to love the witty insightful two word reviews.

As for me I'll stick around to watch the next episode.

Scobie probably on €1000 a week on a building site in the arse end of Offaly. Can't believe it first came out 15 years ago, I remember watching it at the time. I thought it was decent enough for RTE.

RTE were doing a Monday night drama thing back then. They made Love is the Drug in 2004 which was good too. Ruth Negga and Alan Leech were in it. They both went on to bigger things after.

    That Scob gets around anyway

Rewatched it the last few days decent series with the usual lad party type culture. The Midlands must be a depressing place if you view it from this series. Yer man Kevin is some bollocks for what he done

The usual irish heads showing up in the acting circles. What a talent Tom Murphy was

    Charlene McKenna is a fox

    Charlene McKenna is a fox

Owl Lovley girl Imelda is too ha

I'd say that actress is tired of being referred to that character the whole time

It really is/was an accurate representation of midland towns except nowadays its a 1 day weekend instead of fri to mon which i dearly miss but my pocket doesn't. Charlene Mckenna unreal tbf. Havent seen her in anything.recently

It's not just the Midlands to be fair, I live in a smaller rural Village in Waterford and it captured that life perfectly. I thought until Love/Hate came along that it was the best RTE show by some distance. I think it benefited similarly the same way Normal people has in that you can very much get away with slow story if the actors involved are good.

I also agree Charlene Mckenna was nothing short of a ride all those years ago (Quick google shows she is still deadly which is nice).... S

I know some city slickers look down their nose at that lifestyle but was some crack while it lasted.

Didn't like it myself partly because I'm from Offaly and I've honestly never heard the phrase Pure Mule being used even once in my life so i could never understand why the phrase (which apparently exists) was used as a title for the show.

Couldnt beat the all day sunday session from morning to close like depicted in scobies episode. Unfortunately my night didnt always finish like his.

There was a short series called ‘Family’ about 25 years ago. This was RTÉ also. 4 episodes only, it was very good. It was much more similar to love/hate than pure mule.

I'm not from Offaly myself but I'm a regular visitor to the county and I like the place.

I could honestly say that I've met people like those depicted in the show in Offaly and other parts of Ireland.

I know what you mean about Pure Mule as an expression. I never heard it either in Offaly or elsewhere but I guess they used it just because it's catchy.

Watched that at the time, showed the other side of the Celtic Tiger.

Totally random: I remember there was a rumour at that time, of builders using washing up liquid in the cement mix, and that caused so many houses to have cracks later on.

Back to the series: the actors were good.
Saw both Garett Lombard and the late Tom Murphy at the theatre around that time.

I think he does a lot of theatre work. He was in Love is the Drug the year before Pure Mule along with Ruth Negga and Allen Leech

this captured the housing / building bubble quite well

much better than 98% of rte stuff

There's some rare heads in this. Some rare dialog too.

But this show has a lot of heart, quite realistic depiction of small town life. Work all week then straight on the pints on Friday right through until the early hours of Monday morning cos there's fùck all else to be at.

Good nostalgia trip. I didn't realise they made two extra episodes after the first series ended.

Jesus, I almost forgot about that. It was pretty good too and interesting seeing the shift to the recession. IIRC though it wasn't as strong as the first season.

I always laugh when Scobie tell the guard's wife she's the finest rose Offaly ever sent to Tralee when he's trying to get her into bed :pac:

Not just small towns either! Many of us had a friend whom you socialised with who was a bit like Scobie...

My boss was the double of him, bit of a lad, sometimes likeable, sometimes not. Very similar, his name? Also Garrett...
