I sold one of my cars the other evening and am looking for some opinions on a 94' shape Toyota mr2 turbo.. Their pretty old cars now, I dont see them on the road too often these days and if I do it's usually driven by some young lad dogging it up the M1. Is it worth picking one of these up? 4k will get you one these days or is there anything abit more interesting out there? Half
considering a Nissan 180sx or 200sx turbo but either of those will probably have every second Garda pull me in it and I dont want that headache.. Mr2 is less of an attraction and maybe faster aswell. They are nice cars.

    Thanks

    Hi Mondeo,

I bought a '92 turbo GTS MR2 two years ago and haven't looked back since. They are going for silly money now, considering what you get for it. Some people like the pop up headlights, others think it makes them look a bit dated. I've seen some cars where they've changed them for flushmounts, and others where they fit low rise kits.

The handling and acceleration is truly impressive due to the midmount engine design. You can often find very good ones around also, as they tend to be 'loved' by their owners, not just thrashed.

Really the only downside of owning an MR2 is that when you have one, there is not much left to upgrade too . If you think about it, in it's class there is only the NSX, Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini and they are big $$$

There's an active community of MR2 owners around the world (and here in Ireland -> http://www.mr2.ie), parts can still be had straight from Toyota (even for a Jap import), and I think they escape the 'boy racer' bracket with most Garda.

All in all, get's a thumbs up from me.

    Thanks,

I will go for one, a black one would suit me or a silver one.. The pop ups are pretty retro indeed...There are a good few non turbo mr2's about but I will avoid them as I think they would be a dog on the straight. Whats the economy likes on the turbos?

You need a reality check on both of the above points, an MR2 is far from a supercar. Also it's by far more boy racery than the likes of a standard 200sx. Fine car no doubt but no where in the same league as an NSX, Lambo, Ferrari or Porshe, unless your on about a 944 or a 928.
