5k seems very cheap. horrible colour, would make a nice PR vehicle if redone.

    Yeah - hearing aid beige!
    Cheap, though.

That would make the second Brazilian T2 in this country, the other being that '06 one (11811 livery).

the 11811 one is a new brazilian bus, with the squared off roof and sliding door. Like this:

The one above is an older one, with the split-screen style side cargo doors and all the windows in the sides and rear corners. I think the one above is referred to as a "fleetline" model.

"Fleetline" was a South African name for Brazilian buses built from knock-down kits in SA in RHD.

The yoke in the ad seems to be a proper Brazilian T1/T2 hybrid. The mechanics are mostly T1 splitty and only the front and the rear lights are T2.

If you were really without scrouples you could use this to restore a splitty.

Is the '06 11811 one a SA model then (as it's a RHD model)?

nope, that's a converted Brazilian (most likely from Danbury, UK)

In SA they were building T3's until 2003 (with Audi five cylinder engines )

Or stick one of those dodgey fibreglass splitty front panels on it,change it
onto a ZV next year and advertise it for 3 times the price........

On a more serious note I really like the look of this. Even though its neither
bay or samba roof its a reasonably priced way into type 2 ish ownership
compared to some of the inflated prices being sought for "genuine" rust
buckets ! Practical and cheap tax from next year-wonder could I persuade
the missus to buy it -would be perfect for the school run !!!

I would be more tempted to cut off the bay section and weld on the cab of a real splitty including doors etc. You could then easily cut the roof and fit samba skyline roof windows and a rag top and fit period rear lights. If you had all the equipment you could probably do it for around 6k and you would have something that would resemble the real thing. :D

fair play, I knew it was one of them ;)

@ Run_to_da_hills: I don't know if it would be as easy as just sticking a splitscreen front panel on, the bay window bus is a lot wider and taller than the splitscreen bus so you might find yourself in trouble trying to get one onto the other. Presuming this is bus has bay-window dimensions but with splitty style side doors and windows...

Looks like a decent price although I hear parts can be an issue and with it eligible for a DOE test (or is it NCT?) maybe that's why...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,495 ✭✭✭Abelloid

..nothing wrong with the colour either - it would look great dropped about 5 inches on Fuchs. :D

I know its not a pure style but I like it and I reckon its good value.I'd put a set of Fuchs on it, drop it and maybe paint half of it a different colour to compliment the beige, like maroon or pea green !

There should be buckets of spares available for those things out in Brazil. Heaps of UK dealers source their aftermarket VW supplies their. I have seen complete rear corner sections for them for as low as £80, material quality can also be an issue.

This puppy sold yesterday for 4.5K. I took a look at it myself yesterday lunchtime and it was a very clean bus, the chassis was in excellent order and generally the body was also very good.
