Emigrating - dental concerns

With all the talk about sub standard dental work in some countries I'm quite concerned.

I'm emigrating to China next year and haven't a clue as to the general standard of dentistry there, but suspect its basic in most parts.

I have many fillings - white ones in the visible parts of my teeth and mercury ones on the back ones and top ones.

I'm wondering whether I should ask my dentist to refill the older ones?, maybe replace some old, the white ones with mercury ones (i understand the mercury ones last longer). Basically give my mouth a servicing so that marginal fillings work he would ordinarily not treat just yet to go ahead and do it now.

Is this overkill, anyone have any idea of what dentistry in China is like as a whole? I will be living in Tianjin which is a pretty big city with a population around 15 million (depending on what source you read) so wont be in the middle of nowhere. Beijing is a 30 minute bullet train ride away.

Any advice , thoughts appreciated, thanks.

I know for a fact there is one ex-pat clinic in Shanghai. Near the Irish consulate. So I presume there is one in every big city. The quality varies from extremely poor to western equivalent from my experience. You just have to know where to find the modern quality. Ex-pat associations and groups should know.
