Motorbike nuisance in local estate

I have an ongoing issue with a young man nearby who drives a motorbike.
He lives two doors up from me and is becoming a severe headache.
To put it simply his motorbike which isn't particularly large is extremely noisy to the point where I would suspect it may have been purposefully modified to do so.
It's not so much the constant driving in and out of his rented house but the fact that he runs the engine for up to 10 minutes before he leaves.
And he does this for EVERY time that he goes in and out of the house(about 12 times a day).
This engine running for 10 minutes rumbles throughout my whole house and it's impossible to get away from it.
At 8am every morning without fail, the rumbling wakes me up and goes on for 10 minutes.
You can hear his bike about 30 seconds before he even gets into the estate.
It's gotten totally out of hand now.
Is there anything I can do about it?.

Talk to him, It may just be a bit of ignorance on his part and he doesn't know he's annoying his neighbours and a friendly chat may help things

I grew up in a very rough estate, OP, with plenty of that sort of thing going on. You may be right to suspect that the bike was altered to make even more noise. Where I lived, the young guys all modified their bikes to make them noisier. I don't understand their reasoning myself, but I think they do it for the attention.

OP,only talk to this guy if he seems like the sort who would listen to reason. Where I grew up, it was mostly scumbags who had these noisy bikes, and if you thought to ask them to quieten down, the best you could expect would be a brick through your front window.

If you have to make a noise complaint to the police after talking to him, he'll know it was you who reported him, and that could lead to no end of trouble.

First thing on a cold morning you would leave the bike running for a few minutes so nothing strange there.

    12 times a day though??

So your neighbour has probably modified the bike, it's pretty common

    Well,

I'm a biker as well. TBH it sounds like it could just be ignorance on his part. One of the reasons this man (and I for that matter) have a modified louder than standard exhaust on the bike is quite frankly for more notice on the roads. No no the 'look at me im great with a big loud exhaust' noise, but the make car drivers more aware of my presence on the road. You would be surprised it works!

having said that, it can and would be a pain in the ass and I know if one of my neighbours were to say it to me, i would be embarassed for upsetting them and would put the baffles back into the exhaust. Basically after market motorcycle exhausts usually have two modes (both slightly louder than stock). WIth the baffles in and out. Maybe ask him to put the baffles back in and explain yoru sistuation. I know i wouldnt be offended. I would be very apologetic if i was in his boat.

    See how it goes.

If you feel you can approach the man, try and be polite and tell him the situation.
If not, do not have any hesitation on informing the gardai. It is at their discretion to summons a motorist/cyclist to court for loud/modified exhausts. Life's too short to put up with this ****, and this is coming from a young male who has had his phase of loud car exhausts. If you report him, it should be kept anonymous on the gardai's side so for all he knows, it couldve been anyone

I'm with agent_smith here - I'm a biker too and would much appreciate any one approaching me and letting me know if there's a problem instead of just sitting in their house seething every day.

I have a stock exhaust on my bike but it's a 650 vtwin which is quieter than others anyway - it could just be down to the type of bike he has but go talk to him.
