Iv just taxed the van and had to hand in my D.O.E certificate and in the past Iv always left the certificate they give me back at home until I need it again the following yeay to get a D.O.E. Today a friend of mine told me that I should keep it in the van at all times or I could be fined and get points on my license if a guard wanted to see it and I did not have it.
    Is he right?

you can not get points on ur licence for not having your doe with you.
if you do not have it with you you can be asked to produce it within 10 days like they do with your d/l or insurance. as long as you do have a current doe on the vehicle you will be fine

When you say "DoE" that implies you are in the UK and subject to the UK test. If you are then there is no requirement to have your test cert with you. If you live in Ireland then your car is subject to 2 yearly NCT tests, and you are issued with a windscreen sticker that you must display. Again, you don't need to carry the actual cert with you at all times.

The DOE is a test for commercial veichels in the republic of ireland taken annually. Your thinking of the MOT :pac:
