I never though a cyclist could organise a swim events..... Today it happened !

Padraic Marrey organised the first Loughmask open water swim in which you had to cross the lake.

I thought easy, and kind of laugh when he said to have a kayak following each swimmers. I thought I have 20 years of open water in my legs.....

I was wrong, Kayaks were of a major important, this was the toughest swim I had in years, including 14 Ironman swims etc....

The RED CROSS had so many personal on boats, ambulance that they obviously took the safety more than seriously. Ther was over 25 kayaks.....only for us a few crazy swimmers.

The swim was simple : cross over, water temperature was really nice, the waves in the lake make me wonder I went wrong and end up in the sea, really hard. I know it says 7km but There is something weird in this, I usually swim 2.4 miles within the hour, so the double would be 2h30 ?

Maybe I am getting too old, certainly I got lost

I am happy that some of my old crew of athletes won this event, they are great guys, so well done to James Sweeney, Padraic Radcliff and Peter Tuohy. It is nice to be beaten by good athletes, especially friends.

The presentation cup of soup and sandwhich was welcomed. Thanks to all teh volunteers and especially my Kayaker Nichola who stayed with me for my 3h05min swim
