Anyone else agree, they just dont work here today?

Theyre trying to be what punk was, but, the times have changed.

You just have to know where to look.
Kidd Blunt and Give a Man a Kick are cracking bands, unfortunately Kidd Blunt recently disbanded...

Can't agree there. There are some fantastic bands in Ireland atm. As bombidol said, what bands are you talking about?

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Giveamanakick are finishing soon too. I wouldn't call em a punk band, tbh.

    Bah!

Would ya get away with that!

The quality of punk music in Ireland is much better than much of the tripe ye find around Europe.

I read this a while back, so made a point of checking them out last night, very disappointed, really average, I thought

The only time I saw them I was completely hammered, tbh. I never trust my drunken judgement and nor should you! :p

I promise to qualify future recommendations with a measure of my level of sobriety :)

Didn't think they were great when they played the Academy2.

Will check em out again this coming Saturday in Fibbers, 2nd time round, might be better.

Ha, cool, I have been let down by my own drunken judgements in the past. Might head to Fibbers early on Saturday to make sure I haven't been to harsh:D

At least you have a choice of punk bands around dublin or galway, or just about anywhere else to be honest. It's very quiet on the punk front down in cork at the moment (to the best of my knowledge anyway).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 634 ✭✭✭pierrot

Liz is Evil are a great live band yo
And their e.p is class imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Tony Ramone

Just had a listen to them there - sounds pretty class alright. Good catchy punk :)

As long as they're not being copyright crazy on it, just link it in here? Even myspace would be nice.

Paranoid Visions, The Freebooters, Septic Pussy... I like 'em.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,067 ✭✭✭AnimalRights

Liz are Evil are not a Punk band. simple.
So unfair to judge them in a thread like this and has the OP yet replied with the bands he think doesn't work?
The best Irish pure Punk rock band are The Excuses... they're playing Fibbers this Saturday night along with Septic Pussy and a couple of other bands.

    Good choice of pics there.
Personally I wouldn't say the best, but they are one of the tops of my pops.

As for Deep Fuel, checked em out on the myspazz....they're ****e, pop-"punk" can **** off and suck dregin's balls. I hate bands that try to sound American, it's ****in thick!

    But the best was Gout.

As for now, don't know really, but I'm sure there are some.

Runnin Riot still on the go, they're from belfast aren't they?

Yes RR are still at it. And they are from Belfast.

    But they're an Oi/streetpunk band. :P
Very very good band mind, can work a crowd up into a frenzy every time.

    Yip, Gout.

    http://www.myspace.com/goutkilkenny

Also, was out in LA recently and spent an evening drinking beers on Venice Beach with some 'street punks'.
Nice guys but they're never heard of No Means No!

One proudly displayed a dodgy Exploited Beat the Bastards skull tattoo, got very drunk very quickly on beer&wine me buddy bought, then conked out and he got drawed on, poor sweet soul.

Because apparently they're 'arty jazz punk ****' and not hip enough for street punks. Or so the impression is.
    nomeansno are amazing though, respect!

There is a load of Goat stuff up for download too, I can get you the links if you want.

    Do it Anarcho skunk!

Gout sound class, heavier version of Infectious Grooves kinda sound.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,592 ✭✭✭Ro: maaan!

I could never get the hang of Gout. Except for the song Wastin' Away, which is top cock.

And just listened to the new Runnin' Riot album for the first time about 2 days ago, and it's top cock too.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 6,525 Mod ✭✭✭✭dregin

Runnin Riot are definitely one of the greatest Irish bands ever. Simple as.

Gout were phenomenal, a punk band who could actually play their instruments!:pac:
listenen to Mr Wonderful now and it still sounds fresh, so many great ideas executed brilliantly on it. Wish they'd tour again..

Nine IX Lives i think are a great Irish punk band.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭Brunteaphile

I dunno bout that, they describe themselves as pot punk / pop

And they do sound quite pop like.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 59 ✭✭bathroom gurgle

I suppose you're right but maybe in the broader punk sense they're worth a mention

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 303 ✭✭Brunteaphile

I think we covered the broader spectrum on the last page.
