The color of my pee

Ok so can any doctor advise on my current query?

Why is pee clear when you're drinking alchohol? My thinking on this point has led me to believe that drink causes the kidneys to process less toxins in the body thus causing clearer pee.

The alternative I pondered was that perhaps the large quantity of 2 parts hydrogen and 1 part oxygen may result in a temporary state of hydration whilst the body processes the alchohol.

    Please help! I can't sleep.

    Yup

Ok. Not a doctor, but I think it's mainly excess salts in the urine that gives it the yellow colour.

Meanwhile, alcohol is a diuretic (causes you to pee more), meaning that alcohol pee is more watery. Therefore, clearer.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

if your pi$$ stinks then your body's dehydrated if its clear usually it means everything is good

Pee has different colours and smells for a variety of reasons.

Usually it's yellow due to excess vitamins/salts being excreted.

When drinking, you're likely drinking more liquid than you usually would in a given period of time and also alcohol makes you pee more. Considering that the majority of this liquid will be water, and that alcohol and it's oxidised chemicals are clear, it makes sense that your pee will be clear.

    Unusual color
Colorless- indicates over-hydration, which is usually considered much healthier than dehydration. In the context of a drug test, it could indicate a potential attempt to avoid detection of illicit drugs in the bloodstream through over-hydration[1].
Yellowing/light orange may be caused by removal of excess B vitamins from the bloodstream.
Certain medications such as rifampin and pyridium can cause orange urine.
Bloody urine is termed hematuria, potentially a sign of a bladder infection.
Consumption of beets can cause urine to have a pinkish tint; the condition is harmless and temporary.
Dark orange to brown urine can be a symptom of jaundice, rhabdomyolysis, or Gilbert's syndrome.
Black or dark-colored urine is referred to as melanuria and may be caused by a melanoma.
Reddish or brown urine may be caused by porphyria. Again, the consumption of beets can cause the urine to have a harmless, temporary pink or reddish tint.
Greenish color is usually a consequence of consuming asparagus.
Fluorescent yellow / greenish urine may be caused by dietary supplemental vitamins, especially the B vitamins.
Dark yellow urine is usually indicative of dehydration.

Self/internet diagnosing is never a good idea. You may well get worried/stressed about nothing, or ignore something serious.

Head in to a doctor and get'em to have a look - Tests are the only real way of knowing, and you're running a risk of getting a wrong answer online :)

Thanks for the responses... wiki page was very interesting. Doctor idea is very good, if I was worried about this from a health perspective I would definitly go, but to be honest this was more of a curiosity thing.

    Cheers :D

Thats wrong for starters. Over hydration can cause hyponatremia which can cause peope to pass out

Hes not worried about the colour of his urine, hes just asking a question. Sure we'd all be in doctors offices because of clear urine on the odd occasion.:D

From a 'practical' level, the point of view of the US Army is the clearer, the better. The risk of overhydration isn't anywhere near as bad as that of dehydration, especially considering the practical realities of the environment. The few cases of overhydration I've seen were not actually due to drinking too much water, but due to not eating enough food: The weren't enough nutrients being eaten to balance out the water intake.

Alcohol is a diuretic, it inhibits the hypothalmus from releasing Anti-Diuretic Hormone (ADH) which in turn stops Aquaporin 2 (AQP2) from inserting itself into the basal wall of the nephron (the functional unit of the kidney).

This basically stops water from returning to the bloodstream from the kidney, the water is then peed out, resulting in clearer pee and dehydration.

Covered this in a physiology module during the year. Cool stuff.

Edit: And too much water can lead to "water intoxification" where your blood becomes too dilute and you die. This happened to a girl in Dublin at a rave back in the 90s.

Ever see the colour after drinking a glass of Berocca....
You could illuminate the bathroom with the colour of it....
ould Wiki says this is something to do with the amount of excess Vitamin B2 in there ??????
